What are the responsibilities and job description for the Reading Intervention Specialist (Temporary Position) position at Encompass Resources for Learning Inc?
EnCompass reading teachers provide intervention for students in grades K-6 who are performing below grade level in literacy. Through ongoing collaboration with RCSD, EnCompass places these teachers in identified partner schools where they become embedded in the schools’ teaching and learning communities but continue to receive additional support from the EnCompass academic team. The person in this role will develop, implement, and deliver innovative, student-centered reading instruction to help students build the skills and strategies they need to meet grade level standards and become lifelong readers.
Job Responsibilities:
- Assess students’ strengths, challenges, gaps in skills and knowledge, learning style and performance levels using a variety of methods and data sources. Interpret findings and develop individualized learning plans based upon information gathered.
- Provide individual and/or small-group differentiated reading instruction to build foundational literacy skills related to phonemic awareness, fluency, and comprehension.
- Monitor student attendance, grades, and behavior. Regularly confer with students to celebrate accomplishments and develop support plans for addressing areas of need.
- Develop and implement incentive initiatives for students and parents around attendance, participation, and effort.
- Foster social-emotional growth and support executive functioning skills through developmental relationships, a strong classroom culture, and structured routines.
- Track attendance, monitor progress toward goals, and administer periodic assessments to measure outcomes. Document all data in Apricot, EnCompass’ student information system.
- Collaborate with EnCompass staff, school-based colleagues, parents, and other service providers to support a whole-child approach.
- In collaboration with school-based teams, develop and maintain vehicles to communicate with families to share student progress and strategies to support learning, attendance, and engagement.
- Participate in school-based and organizational team meetings to discuss the progress and needs of individual students and to share instructional strategies that foster achievement for students with different learning styles.
- Attend all required professional development at EnCompass and the RCSD partner school, as determined by Program Administrator.
- Develop knowledge of and become actively involved in the culture of the RCSD partner school through participation in school activities and special events, such as sporting or arts events.
- Collaborate with other EnCompass programs to meet the holistic needs of students and families. When appropriate, make referrals to EnCompass expanded learning programs, Family Navigation, and/or Future Ready.
- Perform other duties assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications:
- Minimum – Bachelor’s in education or relevant field
- Preferred – NYS Certification in Childhood Education (grades 1-6), Literacy (birth-grade 6), or related content area; experience in a diverse school setting
Schedule:
- Monday through Friday from 7am-3pm at School #17 RCSD
- This is a temporary position that will run from approximately February through June.
Salary:
- $50,793 - $72,113/year based on experience
