What are the responsibilities and job description for the TUG CAPTAIN (FULLTIME HIRE) position at Encore Dredging Partners?
TEXAS AND LOUISIANA REGION
The Tug Captain is responsible for the care and custody of their boat and crew and the care of any other equipment on the job.
ADDITIONAL DETAILS BEFORE YOU PROCEED
- Schedule is two weeks on and two weeks off
- Day boat, meaning operations will only be performed during the day, 12 hours each day
- (Experienced) daily rate of $650.00, or $750.00 if current Tankerman (PIC)
- Opportunity for Full-Time position with employee benefits (see below)
- Lodging will be on the vessel, and groceries will be provided
- This is a FT position, and we do not provide travel accommodations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (NOT ALL-INCLUSIVE)
- Upholds the Company’s commitment to an injury-free workplace; leads and models safe work practices
- Follows all safety rules and regulations as well as all company policies and procedures
- Works safely around machinery; observes and instructs others in proper equipment use; uses/wears all required PPE
- Ensures team members are provided a safe work environment and are knowledgeable of safe work practices and policies
- Navigates the vessel safely at all times. No Pilot shall operate his vessel in a manner that will cause damage to his vessel, engines, clutches, other equipment (including rubber hoses, buoys, pontoon line or swing lines), marine structures or other marine traffic.
- Ensures all crew members on the vessel receive instruction on how to do jobs properly and monitor performance
- Ensures that each crew member knows the cargo of each barge in tow and has an understanding of any hazards associated with said cargo.
- Participates in crew management, general supervisory duties, and management of the vessel’s budget
- Completes required log entries
- Maintains radio watch as required
- Enforces all rules
- Gives assignments and direction to the mate and/or lead deckhand
- Complies with all established vessel management policies and procedures
- Maintains the vessel budget and helps maximize cost efficiency as directed
- Provides instructions and information to crew members
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- High School degree or equivalent
- Two or more years of experience
- Excellent safety and mechanical skills
- Must maintain valid USCG licensing
- Master of Towing (min. 200 tons) Vessels upon Inland Waters & Western Rivers license required
- Maintain an active TWIC
- Radar Certificate
- Ability to meet the physical requirements of the position as outlined in the Functional Job Description
- Must be able to successfully pass all pre-employment screening (drug test, fit test) in addition to random drug and alcohol testing
