What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lifestyles Manager for Assisted Living position at Encore Village of Schaumburg?
Encore Village of Schaumburg is currently hiring for a full time Lifestyles Manager in our Assisted Living Department. We are seeking a creative individual with a passion for serving and empowering seniors, who enjoys working with a dynamic team and thrives on driving change. This position is responsible for development and delivery of the Assisted Living Lifestyles Program, including program planning and leadership, calendar creation, management of staff and resources, documentation and communication. Previous experience in designing and planning recreational programs and/or working with seniors required. Bachelor's Degree and Activity Director 36-hour course preferred.
Responsibilities:
- Plans recreational activities for residents in Assisted Living (both Willows and Memory Support) including social, cognitive, physical, cultural, creative and spiritual programs. Creates theme-based or special event activities at least monthly.
- Collaborates with the Campus Lifestyles team, including the Independent Lifestyles Manager and Briarwood Life Enrichment Manager in the planning and implementation of campus-wide events.
- Notifies Plant Operations of the set up and take down for scheduled programs.
- Submits food requisitions to Dining Services as needed for scheduled programs.
- Encourages resident participation in programs by providing promotion, cues and/or escorts.
- Schedules entertainers at least monthly based on cost, theme and resident interest. Ensures payment is received, area is set up and required equipment is available.
- Plans outings and provides necessary assistance and escorts to ensure resident safety and enjoyment.
- Obtains supplies that are required for activities, utilizing the organizations purchasing guidelines.
- Works closely with Volunteer Manager to schedule volunteers and to place them in appropriate activities. Provides orientation, follow-up and evaluation to ensure a positive experience for the volunteers.
- Coordinates use of the Willows exercise room.
- Produces monthly calendar and newsletter for Assisted Living and Memory Support and coordinates distribution.
- Participates in the orientation of new residents by coordinating Lifestyles Department initiate contact within the first three days of occupancy, completing interest survey and reviewing calendar of activities.
- Maintains a record of resident participation.
- Participates as a member of an interdisciplinary team to provide optimum individualized care for residents and participates in Care Conferences.
- Manages the Lifestyles budget including purchasing needed items and keeping record of expenses. Secures necessary funds for outings and events as needed.
- Maintains and oversees organization of departmental equipment and supplies.
- Participates in Willows and Memory Support in-service education and training including disaster drills, as required by IDPH.
- Secures training/development to maintain required individual ertification if applicable.
- Serves as first responder for medical emergencies on outings and when supervising residents on campus and as needed.
- Leads Resident Council meetings monthly. Creates, maintains and distributes meeting minutes. Keeps record of minutes in secured location. Shares concerns with departments as needed.
- Coordinates family involvement through special events at least quarterly and management of Family Engagement system.
- Recruits, trains, develops, motivates, disciplines, schedules and evaluates performance of Lifestyles Assistants.
- Understands IDPH guidelines for dementia programming and ensures compliance.
- Acts as a resource in the ongoing education and development of employees.
- Collaborates with Lifestyles and Assisted Living management in the development and implementation of policies and procedures affecting area of responsibility.
- Provides input into annual budget and works with Assisted Living management in maintaining/reducing costs.
- Participates in community outreach activities.
- Participates in other projects, tasks, or assignments as assigned by supervisor.
Environmental & Physical Demands:
- Frequent walking, standing, bending, squatting, reaching, climbing stairs.
- Occasionally being required to drive.
- Frequently being able to lift up to 50 lbs and occasionally being able to lift up to 75 lbs.
- Occasionally being exposed to bio-hazard, and radiation materials, body fluids/blood, and chemical hazards.
- Required to wear protective clothing, hearing protection, and respiratory protection other than surgical mask.
Qualifications/Requirements:
- High School Graduate. Associate Degree or Bachelor's Degree preferred.
- Completion of 36 hour Activity Director's program preferred.
- 2-3 years experience in planning and leading activities for seniors, including those with dementia.
- Familiarity with Montessori programming preferred.
- Ability and willingness to work weekend, evening and holiday hours as scheduled and to work more hours when needed.

- Experience with audio visual equipment preferred. Able to read, write, speak and understand English.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word and Outlook. Experience with Excel and Publisher preferred.
- Must be able to remain calm and respond appropriately and quickly to emergency situations.
- Must be able to participate in a 2-person lift technique following Encore Village policies and procedures in response to medical emergencies.
