Position Overview
Under direct supervision, applies functional specifications and uses engineering tools to complete projects relating to product changes, new development, and testing solutions. Assists in preparing component specifications, follows work processes to document designs, and prepares materials for internal and external testing. Takes the initiative to go beyond what situations require and focuses on attention to detail by making sure that work is done correctly, completely, and to the highest standards.
Essential Job Functions
- Operate in a laboratory environment that maintains ISO 17025 compliance for UL DAP accreditation
- Perform research and study to pinpoint areas of improvement and determine root cause analysis
- Work effectively as a team member by communicating clearly and efficiently to provide innovative solutions
- Use engineering tools and basic engineering principles to document calculations and compare the results in controlled databases
- Perform product testing related to UL code specifications and QA/QC requirements
- Code and test programming for in-house software programs and projects
- Support new product development through testing and prototyping
- Maintain existing equipment
- Collaborate with mentors to understand the basic content required to submit invention disclosures, and recognize ideas that have IP potential without disclosing confidential information.
Requirements
- Bachelors or Associates Degree from an accredited college or university engineering or acceptable technical program. Candidates holding degrees in non-science related disciplines with substantial experiences in machine design, fabrication, manufacturing and project management may also be considered
- Basic metallurgy, plastics and extrusion knowledge
- Basic experience in modeling (SolidWorks preferred), simulation, design and testing
- Basic electronics and/or computer science knowledge
- Strong mechanical and problem solving aptitude
- Knowledge of industry specific regulatory standards (ASTM, ISO, UL, RoHS, etc.)
- Knowledge of environmental sciences best practices, LEED initiatives, a basic ability to interpret OSHA regulations and overall environmental impact awareness of a laboratory facility
- Knowledge/experience with Java, C#, SQL server database and/or C
- Fluent in English
