Union Position: This job is covered under the terms of a collective bargaining agreement with the Washington-Baltimore News Guild, Local 32035

Salary: $52,000-$60,000, commensurate with experience

Job Summary: The Press Assistant is tasked with drafting press materials, tracking media coverage, coordinating logistics for interviews and events, and other duties related to communicating our work on democracy reform, getting rid of big money in politics, and voting rights. The ideal candidate will have an understanding of press and digital communications, a strong attention to detail, and a commitment to advancing the organization’s mission. They will join a collaborative work environment and help ensure ECU continues being a leading pro-Democracy voice nationally.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Support the communications team in drafting and distributing press releases, media advisories, and other materials to secure media coverage for the organization’s initiatives.
• Monitor media coverage of the organization’s campaigns and initiatives, compiling media reports, and analyzing the impact of press outreach efforts.
• Maintain and update a database of media contacts to ensure effective outreach and relationship-building.
• Create and schedule content for the organization's website and other platforms.
• Help monitor the organization’s social media profiles, including tracking engagement and ensuring timely responses to inquiries.
• Coordinate the creation of messaging materials, including talking points, FAQs, and fact sheets, to ensure consistent communication across platforms and stakeholders.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have experience in media relations, public relations, or digital communications. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential, as well as the ability to work collaboratively across teams and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment. The Press Assistant must be aligned with our commitment to fostering an inclusive and diverse work environment where all employees feel valued and empowered. Job Location: This is a remote position, with a strong preference for the employee to live in a state in which ECU currently operates. Regular work-related travel is required.
