What are the responsibilities and job description for the Store Clerk position at End of the Trail Convenience Store?

Job Summary:
Supports the operation of the End of the Trail store by providing excellent customer service that meets or exceeds customers' expectations. Assists customers with merchandise service and sales. Operates POS cash register. Price and stock merchandise.
Job Duties & Responsibilities:
A. General/Administrative
1. Ability to operate POS cash register system and make changes with speed and accuracy. Operate a
credit, check, and lotto machine. Operate other office equipment when needed.
2. Follow the work schedule as posted and observe shift operating hours at all times. Clock in/out and sign
time sheet to verify hours worked.
3. Open and close store according to the established procedures outlined by the company.
4. Adhere to all tobacco/alcohol, food handlers and safety regulations.
5. Give all customers prompt and courteous services.
6. Pumps propane upon customer purchase. For safety and training, a senior team mate may walk through
how to utilize propane pumps appropriately.
7. Stay familiar with the company price book, operations manual, and bulletins. Read and sign all memos.
8. Notify the store manager within 24 hours of any discrepancies in the operating results on the shift report
and of cash overage or shift conditions.
9. Inform the store manager of any personnel situations or policy violations that have an adverse effect on
the store’s operating performance.
10. Ring all sales and discounts.
11. Accurately post markups and markdowns, store use of merchandise, voids, and bad merchandise write-
offs.
12. Adhere to professional and company policies related to dress code and hygiene.
B. Security
1. Share the responsibility for controlling the inventory on the shift or in the store.
2. Follow company policy with regard to excessive cash in registers, change boxes, and safe security.
3. Complete a shift-change report at the end of the shift.
4. Follow the correct vendor check-in procedure.
5. Protect company assets at all times.
6. Follow robbery deterrence guidelines at all times.
C. Merchandising
1. Keep coolers, drink boxes, shelves, and displays fully stocked and fronted at all times.
2. Properly clean and maintain equipment in or outside of the store.
3. Prepare high-margin products such as coffee, fountain drinks, & food for the hot roller.
4. Organize back stock to insure proper rotation.
D. Maintenance
1. Keep store floors clean at all times, dust shelves, empty all trash containers as needed, but at least once
per shift.
2. Check bathrooms regularly to stock and clean as needed.
3. Check the store refrigeration equipment for proper performance at least once per shift.
4. Report all inoperable light fixtures to the store manager.
E. Performs related duties as assigned by the Store Manager and/or Assistant Store Manager.
F. May be assigned duties under the Chehalis Tribe Emergency Management Plan and Program.
Education: High School Diploma or G.E.D.
Experience: Prefer 3 months related experience and/or training in a convenience store or similar retail environment.
Skills & Abilities:
1) Language Skills: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to effectively communicate with customers and co-workers.
2) Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
3)Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
4) Physical Demands: Must be able to stand for extended periods of time. Frequent bending, stooping,reaching, pushing and pulling. Will encounter frequent periods of heat while in hot work areas and cold while in freezer area. Will encounter moderate exposure to slippery work surfaces and greasy areas. Must periodically lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
5) Work Environment: Common retail/convenience store environment.
6) Prior experience in a grocery or other convenience store operation.
Additional Requirements:
1) Submit to and pass a Drug Test
2) Successfully complete a Criminal Background Check.
4) Possess or obtain a food handlers permit.
5) Must be flexible with shifts and days off. Be willing to work nights, weekends and holidays.
6) Must be able to handle busy periods during peak service times.
