- Hourly Pay Range: $18.38-$26.65. The hourly pay rate offered is determined by a candidate’s expertise and years of experience, among other factors.
- Location: Chicago, IL
- Full Time
- Hours: 40 hours per week; 8 am – 4:30 pm with ability to be flexible with hours based on patient need. Rotating weekends.
- Required Travel: None
What you will need:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Certification from a recognized doula program or childbirth education program
- 2 years experience with labor birth support and maternal newborn care.
- Spanish speaking preferred or willing to take Spanish classes provided by Swedish.
- Knowledge: Physical and emotional support during the different stages of labor. Must be willing to go to classes for labor support enhancement.
- Skills: Increase the exclusive breastfeeding rates and bridge the equity gap among breastfeeding patients.
- Abilities: Assist in creating birth plans and provide equitable care to all patients in the Family Birthing Center.
- Computer skills in Windows, Word and Excel.
- Epic EMR charting.
General Summary:
As a Certified Doula, you will be accountable for providing high quality, individualized, goal directed perinatal care for all levels of birthing patients (pre, during and post-delivery) and their newborns in accordance evidence based best practice and with the mission, vision and philosophy of Swedish Hospital, and policies of the Family Birthing Center.
Responsibilities and Essential Functions
- Educate clients on pregnancy, labor and delivery, postpartum care, breastfeeding, newborn care and infant CPR/first aid.
- Collaborate with other members of the healthcare team, such as doctors, midwives and nurses in order to provide quality safe care.
- Develop a patient centered birth plan that will allow the patient to feel empowered and able to make informed decisions during labor and delivery.
- Follow-up with postpartum patients on birth experience and equitable care.
Environment
- Exposure to noise, stress and many interruptions.
- Potential for exposure to chemicals, blood and bodily fluids.
- Potential exposure to airborne diseases. The same as for any individual working in a hospital environment that is dependent on a ceiling ventilation system for in flow and out flow of air.
Physical Demands
- Light work (exerting up to 20 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 30 lbs. of force frequently and or up to 10lbs of force constantly to move objects)
