Horizons Youth Services at Milwaukee Job Corps Center provides innovative, quality educational and job training programs to enable young people to succeed in today's competitive job market and keep pace with the ever-changing dynamics of our worldwide economy.
Duties :
- Performs as an instructional facilitator in a regular classroom setting, presenting instruction in varied classes and activities to include but not limited to preparatory and developmental Academic and Career Technical Education (CTE) foundational skills, Workplace Communications, Employability Skills, Information Technology, Health Education, Driver’s Education preparation coursework and CSS Standards, etc.
- Performs as a facilitator in assisting students seeking advanced training opportunities.
- Assists approved applicants to apply at participating colleges.
- Works to maximize number of PELL grants secured by students.
- Develops and constantly evaluates Career Preparation curriculum and works directly with the vocational instructors and career transition staff in coordinating curriculum development.
- Makes adequate preparation for classroom activities and maintains a high degree of discipline within the classroom in order to ensure maximum learning.
- Ensure that students are actively engaged at all times.
- Establishes a high degree of student / instructor rapport.
- Maintains students’ personal folders, recording personal data, including test scores, assessments and evaluations, attendance, incident reports, achievement awards, and any other pertinent information concerning students. Records and forwards required documentation and forms as per established procedures including daily attendance.
- Participates in ESPs (student evaluation performance) and evaluates student employee’s performance and employability skills. Provides regular feedback to student.
- Provides job development and placement services to all center graduates.
- Provides regular feedback to student employees regarding appropriate employability skills.
- Coordinates placement services to students with placement agencies and One Stop Centers
- Provides students with current labor market information
- Completes and submits all required paperwork in processing Job Corps Placement Assistance Records.
- Establishes and maintains relationships with employers and support service agencies (JACS and WICS) to develop opportunities for students.
- Conducts follow-up and post placement interviews with students 6 and 12 months after separation to provide ongoing placement services and assistance.
- Assists students in developing career goals and objectives.
- Arranges and / or schedules required tests to assist students with placement (i.e., ASVAB, ACT, Drivers’ License, etc.)
- Establishes and maintains contact with military recruiters
- Maintains student placement files for all graduates in accordance with DOL and Horizons Youth Services’ policies and procedures
- Communicates with placement agencies and referral sources regularly
- Meets with all Job Corps students throughout their enrollment to provide career counseling and guidance
- Assists students with completing employment applications and resumes
- Assess students’ readiness for career transition
- Provides training to students to ensure fully prepared to conduct job search
- Provide training in job search skills
- Ensure students are equipped with independent living skills needed to take care of themselves and family as appropriate
- Prepare students to access the resources and services that will assist them in making a successful transition
- Works toward meeting performance management goals
- Maintains good housekeeping in all areas and complies with safety practices
- Models, mentors, monitors appropriate Career Success Standards
