We are looking for passionate Canine Counselors to join our dynamic team and help ensure every dog in our care has a safe, fun, and enriching experience.
Position Overview
As a Canine Counselor, you will play a crucial role in the daily operations of our dog daycare, boarding, and training programs. You will be responsible for managing group play sessions, providing individual enrichment, maintaining a safe and clean environment, and assisting with boarding operations. This is a physically active role that requires strong dog-handling skills, attention to detail, and a passion for working with animals.
Key Responsibilities
Dog Supervision & Playgroup Management
- Monitor and manage off-leash playgroups, ensuring a safe and structured environment for all dogs.
- Recognize and interpret canine body language to intervene when necessary to prevent conflicts.
- Rotate dogs in and out of play areas based on temperament, energy level, and behavioral needs.
- Engage dogs in enrichment activities, including puzzle toys, sensory play, and structured group games.
- Ensure dogs who do not participate in daycare receive individual playtime, affection, and exercise.
Boarding & General Care
- Assist with daily care for boarding dogs, including feeding, medicating, and monitoring their health and behavior.
- Follow detailed instructions from owners regarding dietary needs, medications, and special care requirements.
- Ensure dogs have clean bedding, fresh water, and a stress-free environment.
Facility Cleanliness & Safety
- Maintain high cleanliness standards by sanitizing play areas, kennels, and common spaces throughout the day.
- Follow all safety protocols for handling and interacting with dogs of different sizes and temperaments.
- Identify and report any health or behavioral concerns to management promptly.
Client Interaction & Customer Service
- Greet pet owners, provide updates on their dogs' stay, and offer excellent customer service.
- Assist with check-in and check-out procedures, including reviewing pet records and owner instructions.
- Educate pet parents on their dog’s behavior, enrichment needs, and additional services we offer.
Collaboration with Trainers & Staff
- Work alongside professional trainers to reinforce good behavior and basic obedience in daycare groups.
- Assist in socialization exercises for training dogs as needed.
- Follow guidance from leads and managers to ensure a well-structured and organized work environment.
What We Look For
- Passion for working with dogs and a strong understanding of canine behavior.
- Experience in a dog daycare, boarding, training, rescue, veterinary, or pet care setting is a plus (but not required—training is provided!).
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while remaining calm and in control.
- Strong observational skills to read and interpret dog body language and intervene appropriately.
- Comfortable with physically demanding tasks, including standing for long periods, lifting up to 50 lbs, and working outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Excellent communication skills and a team player mentality.
- Dependable, punctual, and able to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.
- Must be comfortable handling all breeds, sizes, and temperaments of dogs.

Please note - this job is 95% outdoors. The applicant MUST be able to handle being on their feet for several hours a day and work in extreme temperatures.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $10.00 - $13.00 per hour
Expected hours: 30 – 40 per week
