Energy Edge Consulting, LLC provides energy consulting and advisory services to commercial, industrial and institutional consumers of energy as well as energy providers and producers and other organizations involved in the energy industry in North America and Europe and is seeking a Retail Electricity Analyst.
The successful candidate will be highly self-motivated and work well within a close-knit, dynamic team of bright, driven energy consulting professionals. This is an in-office position where the individual will be in the Houston office, along with the firm’s Operations & Analytics Team, Director of Analytics & Advisory Services, and one of the Principal / Founding Partners. As mentioned further in the posting, experience in the energy industry is preferred but not required.
Position Overview
Ideally, the candidate will possess the skills to perform the following duties :
- Provide direct analytical support to existing and / or prospective clients
- Perform various analyses on energy market issues for client deliverables
- Develop and prepare reports and statistical information for client reporting requirements
- Develop reporting dashboards and visualizations that can enhance current client-specific and internal reporting
- Perform modeling studies using specialized software for short- and long-range forecasts directly and indirectly related to natural gas, renewables, and energy contracts
- Monitor industry activities and trends and keep current on regulatory developments.
- Generate analysis for ISO-specific market opportunities and make recommendations to the Client Manager
- Fulfill fundamental and technical data requests from market sources, including requesting usage / spend data from utilities, retail suppliers, billing portals, and other platforms
- Model electricity and natural gas tariff rates
- Generate client-facing reports in Microsoft Excel
- Develop and run complex models to support structured energy products, including renewables, wholesale transactions, swaps, and demand response
- Audit monthly invoices for complex billing structures
- Hedge gas and electricity on behalf of our clients
- Perform evaluations on distributed generation (solar PV, prime electricity, backup electricity, microturbines, etc.) and demand response opportunities on behalf of clients in regulated and deregulated regions
- Perform evaluations of solar, wind, and battery storage opportunities at the hourly or sub-hourly level to determine optimal project selection, generation, and dispatch profiles for clients
- Once hired, the analyst is expected to develop basic understanding and implementation of Python, R, or some other analytical or statistical programming language to support the firm’s existing reporting and create efficiencies in new analysis
