Job Summary
In the visionary role as Director of Energy Services - Data Centers/AI, you will lead strategic initiatives in power delivery, utility collaboration, and interconnection processes for cutting-edge data center and AI-driven projects. In this essential role, you will guide clients through complex energy challenges, develop innovative microgrid and off-grid solutions, and navigate the regulatory landscape to secure vital permits. Job Responsibilities
Strategic Power Assessment
- Lead the evaluation and assessment of power needs for data centers and AI technologies, providing expert insights into energy consumption trends and potential for optimization.
- Evaluate and recommend optimal power delivery solutions tailored to a diverse range of energy users.
- Analyze energy usage patterns and recommend strategies to ensure efficiency, reliability, and cost-effectiveness.
Collaborative Development & Relationship Management
- Partner with developers and stakeholders to explore and implement various energy generation options, including solar, wind, geothermal, nuclear, and conventional methods.
- Cultivate and sustain long-term relationships with key stakeholders, including developers, utility companies, regulatory agencies, and other strategic partners.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for clients in the data center and AI sectors, collaborating with the client to ensure alignment between energy solutions and the goals of the developers and project stakeholders.
Utility Engagement
- Lead efforts in negotiating utility interconnection agreements and streamlining permitting processes to drive project success.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with utility companies, negotiating contracts and coordinating the delivery of power to data centers and AI operations.
- Navigate complex utility regulations and ensure that all projects meet local, state, and federal utility requirements.
Innovative Energy Solutions
- Design and deploy customized microgrid and off-grid energy solutions that meet the unique demands of data centers and AI applications.
- Spearhead the development and implementation of innovative energy solutions tailored to data centers and AI workloads, including renewable energy integration, demand response strategies, and energy storage.
- Stay informed of emerging technologies in energy and AI to incorporate the latest advancements into energy strategy development.
Regulatory & Compliance Expertise
- Provide expertise and insight on compliance and permitting challenges within the energy industry, ensuring adherence to all local, state, and federal regulations, including environmental standards and utility requirements.
- Provide guidance on regulatory trends and potential impacts on data center and AI energy strategies.
Project Leadership
- Oversee end-to-end project development, ensuring timely and seamless execution from concept through to completion.
- Prepare and present comprehensive reports and presentations to communicate project updates and strategic recommendations clearly and compellingly.
- Communicate complex energy concepts and strategies clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, including senior leadership, clients and regulatory bodies.
- Lead multidisciplinary teams to ensure successful planning, execution, and delivery of energy projects within budget and on schedule.
- Provide oversight on project timelines, resources, and deliverables, ensuring that all aspects of the project align with the client's goals and expectations.
Knowledge, Skills, Competencies, and Experience
- Minimum 5 years of experience in power delivery, utility interactions, and interconnection processes.
- Engineering degree or degree in a relevant field (Preferred).
- Proven expertise with microgrid power delivery systems serving data center, industrial, large commercial, or large agricultural loads.
- Proven history of successfully permitting and developing energy projects.
- Strong understanding of various energy generation technologies.
- Deep understanding of energy regulations, energy markets, and utility-scale energy development.
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities to address complex challenges.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with a diverse range of stakeholders.
- Advanced proficiency in MS Office Suite (MS Projects, Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint) and Adobe.
