This is a hybrid position with a home-based office and work at customer sites in the Metro Detroit area.


Your Background

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, engineering technology, or a related technical discipline. Knowledge and capabilities typically acquired through 5 years of job-relevant experience, such as experience in energy management in a manufacturing setting. Certified Energy Manager (CEM) certification from the Association of Energy Engineers.
  • Preferred: 8 years of energy management experience. Professional Engineer’s license, Certified Energy Auditor (CEA), Certified Measurements and Verification Professions (CMVP).
  • Experience identifying capital energy upgrades and savings in commercial and plant settings and following ISO 50001 and customer SOP.
  • Competency in performing engineering analysis and calculations for systems and processes that utilize electricity and natural gas.
  • A basic understanding of the utility and incentive process to assist with collecting incentives and rebates for energy efficiency projects and initiatives.
  • Intermediate-to-advanced analytical and project management skills, including scheduling, estimating, and budgeting.
  • Effective verbal and written communication with individuals at all levels, inside and outside the Corporation.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills consistent with identifying key energy improvement-related issues and recommending optimal solutions for various situations.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret potentially complex financial and energy usage-related data and develop optimal recommendations and solutions.
  • Ability to conduct effectual energy team meetings and manage the meeting process with optimal results.
  • Ability to initiate new ideas and approaches, challenge prevailing practices, and approach with feasible alternatives.


Day-to-Day

  • Provide demand-side energy conservation opportunities by performing reviews of energy-consuming systems and equipment, including maintenance functions, operating practices, and physical conditions.
  • Identify and analyze energy conservation opportunities to optimize energy utilization.
  • Perform calculations to determine energy and cost savings for energy conservation projects.
  • Understand existing and new products, services, and technologies to optimize energy usage in a cost-effective manner.
  • Provide energy optimization technical support for designated customers. Energy sources include, but are not limited to, electricity, natural gas, steam, compressed air, and water.
  • Provide project management support in the implementation of energy-related projects.
  • Assist customers in developing energy-efficient standards, initiatives, and specifications for new facilities, processes, and equipment.
  • Develop and implement energy awareness programs and activities.
  • Promote energy conservation through the implementation of established best practices, energy conservation awareness education, integration of new energy-efficient technologies, and energy usage analysis.
  • Understand utility usage patterns, manage routine energy reports, and regularly monitor energy consumption.
  • Analyze key energy performance metrics and communicate progress to key customer stakeholders.
  • Support the customer’s carbon emissions and energy reduction goals.
  • Assist in driving customer and overall Company energy reduction targets.
  • Support customers’ development of annual energy budgets.
  • Assist customer with participation in utility energy programs.
  • Assist customer with energy benchmarking exercises.
  • Assist with resolving billing issues, power quality issues, momentary outage resolution, and any other utility-related customer concerns.
  • Follow all safety procedures and requirements of the Company and the Customer.
