This is a hybrid position with a home-based office and on-site work in Detroit
Your Background
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, engineering technology, or a related technical discipline. Knowledge and capabilities typically acquired through 3 or more years of job-relevant experience, such as experience in energy management.
- Preferred: Professional Engineer’s license or Certified Energy Manager certification from the Association of Energy Engineers.
- Experience identifying capital energy upgrades and savings in commercial and plant settings and following ISO 50001 and customer SOP.
- Knowledge and/or experience using a Building Management System (BMS) to monitor, analyze, and optimize a building’s energy consumption by making recommendations to adjust HVAC systems, lighting controls, and other equipment based on building occupancy patterns, weather, and other real-time data to reduce energy waste and improve overall building efficiency.
- Understanding of HVAC systems and their control logic.
- Proficiency in a variety of BMS platforms and programming languages.
- Intermediate-to-advanced analytical and project management skills, including scheduling, estimating, and budgeting.
- Effective verbal and written communication with individuals at all levels, inside and outside the Corporation.
- Analytical and problem-solving skills consistent with identifying key energy improvement-related issues and recommending optimal solutions for various situations.
- Ability to analyze and interpret potentially complex financial and energy usage-related data and develop optimal recommendations and solutions.
- Ability to conduct effectual meetings and manage the meeting process with optimal results.
- Ability to initiate new ideas and approaches, challenge prevailing practices, and approach with feasible alternatives.
Day-to-Day
- Provide demand-side energy conservation opportunities by reviewing energy-consuming systems and equipment, including maintenance functions, operating practices, and physical conditions.
- Understand utility usage patterns and perform studies for reduction opportunities.
- Promote energy conservation through the implementation of established best practices, energy conservation awareness education, integration of new energy-efficient technologies, and energy usage analysis.
- Identify and analyze energy conservation opportunities to optimize energy utilization.
- Perform calculations to determine energy and cost savings for energy conservation projects.
- Analyzing energy usage data from the BMS to identify trends, peak usage times, malfunctions, and areas with potential for energy savings.
- Generating reports and dashboards from BMS data to track energy performance, identify trends, and communicate findings to stakeholders.
- Make recommendations to configure and adjust BMS control sequences for lighting, heating, cooling, and ventilation based on occupancy, weather conditions, and time of day to optimize energy consumption.
- Assist with resolving billing issues, power quality issues, momentary outage resolution, and any other utility-related customer concerns.
- Provide energy optimization technical support for designated customers. Energy sources include, but are not limited to, electricity, natural gas, steam, compressed air, and water.
- Understand existing and new products, services, and technologies to optimize energy usage in a cost-effective manner.
- Develop and implement energy awareness programs and activities.
- Support customers’ development of annual energy budgets.
- Research and assist customers in applying for rebates, grants, or other external funding opportunities for energy efficiency projects.
- Provide project management support in the implementation of energy-related projects.
- Assist in driving customer and overall Company energy reduction targets.
- Follow all safety procedures and requirements of the Company and the Customer.
