Job Duties/Tasks/Responsibilities
- Reviews existing procedures and prepares revisions and checklist updates to incorporate regulatory requirements and changes as well as customer driven revisions.
- Provides planning, coordination and radiological controls information for the various Radiation Work Permits (RWPs), Manifest Reviews, ALARA notes, and other radiation safety reviews as assigned.
- Completes Radiation Safety ALARA work plans and enforces compliance.
- Evaluates radiological conditions and prescribes controls and protective measures, reviews work packages and participates in work planning to ensure appropriate Radioactive controls and ALARA practices are included and implemented.
- Compiles and submits ALARA Reports.
- Investigates and reports on incidents of radiation exposure and contamination spread.
- As needed, assumes responsibilities as an alternate radiation safety officer on a federal or agreement state radioactive material license (with appropriate experience and federal or agreement state regulatory approval). May be designated by name on a federal or agreement state radioactive material license.
- Provides oversight, direction, and training to organization staff to ensure all radiation safety activities related to a site, program, project, function and/or facility process(es) are conducted in compliance with established rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and ALARA Principles and to ensure high quality products and services for EnergySolutions customers.
- Reviews bioassay data and calculates internal dose assignments as applicable.
- Supports lab personnel in recording air sample results to use for trending and analysis.
- Works with Radiation Safety personnel to reduce the personnel contamination event (PCE) rate.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Education, Experience and Certification Requirements
Education
- Bachelor's degree required or equivalent experience
Certifications
- Hazwoper training
- External and Internal Dosimetry Training
- Q Clearance or the ability to obtain a Q clearance
Required Experience
- A minimum of 5 years experience in ALARA/waste management or 3 years as Waste Specialist, ALARA Specialist, or equivalent
Preferred Experience
- 10 years of experience in ALARA/waste management
- Working knowledge of state and federal regulations
- Organized and disciplined approach to documentation, development, maintenance of ALARA and Dosimetry documentation
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Intermediate computer skills, including Microsoft Word
Physical/Mental Requirements and Working Conditions
- Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds and push up to 200 pounds; handle, grip, and reach above or below shoulder
- Ability to use hands to accomplish tasks as assigned
- Ability to walk and bend/stoop
- Ability to effectively communicate; pass audiogram in hearing conservation program as required by location
- Ability to see close and distance, basic colors and shades
- Ability to work inside an office and outside
- Ability to work alone and work with others; perform under deadline pressure
- Ability to drive a vehicle
