- Performs operations work as part of a team of semi-skilled and skilled workers (e.g., laborers; equipment operators, and radioactive waste handling workers).
- Operates a variety of equipment: medium weight equipment, small, fixed-facility (light) equipment, and hand and power tools. Uses equipment to perform waste handling and disposal, and earthmoving construction activities.
- Works under the direction of the Disposal Operations Supervisor.
- Complies with all local, state and federal health and safety regulations and site health and safety requirements.
- Complies with all requirements for wearing personal protective equipment while performing job duties.
- Participates in procedure development and revision, job hazard analysis and safety walkdowns as applicable.
- Uses a variety of medium weight equipment to perform construction, material handling and waste disposal work.
- Operates, services and makes minor adjustments to small/medium motor graders, backhoes, loaders, scrapers, forklifts, and haul/dump trucks.
- Inspects shipment rigging and assists in hooking slings/wire rope to crane rigging/hook(s)..
- May perform the work of an Operator 1 or 2 as required.
- May lead and direct the work of an Operator 1 or 2.
- May provide training to an Operator 1 or 2 as needed and reviews the work of others as needed.

- Basic computer skills, including the ability to operate equipment using HMI
- Ability to successfully pass a fundamentals entry examination as applicable

- Demonstrated ability to handle more complex work and schedule tasks assigned to Operator 1 and 2 employees as appropriate
- Ability to learn rigging practices. Experience with rigging preferred.
- Ability to comprehend procedure and work package instructions as applicable
- Ability to perform physically demanding work
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- Ability to push and pull up to 35 pounds and carry up to 50 pounds; handle, grip, and reach above or below shoulder
- Ability to use hands and feet to accomplish tasks as assigned
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, climb, bend/stoop, crouch, squat/kneel, twist at the waist and balance
- Ability to effectively communicate; speaking, reading, understanding, writing and hearing clear English; pass audiogram in hearing conservation program as required by location
- Normal vision (with or without correction)
- Ability to perceive depth and adjust focus; basic hand/eye coordination
- Ability to see close and distance, basic colors/shades, and peripheral vision
- Ability to work in extreme weather conditions and environments wherein there is exposure to noise, dust, grease, smoke, fumes, noxious odors, gases, chemicals and mechanical and electrical hazards
- Ability to work inside an office, outside, or in extreme temperatures
- Ability to work with machinery vibration, power tools, moving objects, and slippery/uneven walking surfaces
- Ability to work while wearing chemical resistant coveralls and respiratory protection
- Ability to work with others and interact with the public; perform under deadline pressure
- Ability to operate equipment and drive a vehicle
Minimum Education, Experience and Certification Requirements
Education
- High School diploma or GED
Certifications
- Ability to obtain applicable qualification card required (for operation of a small/medium motor grader, compactor, bulldozer, and yardmaster)
- Valid driver’s license with a clean record required. Evidence of insurability required.
Required Experience
- A minimum of 6 months of related experience as an Operator 2 or equivalent offsite experience
