What are the responsibilities and job description for the R&D Membrane Chemical Engineering Intern position at EnergyX?

The Role
EnergyX is looking for an intern to focus with the Membrane and Electrodialysis Team. This role will allow interns to obtain real-word industry experience in understanding flows, instrumentation, and data taken from experiments to help in the process and production of lithium hydroxide. Though not necessary, candidates should have polymer chemistry experience. They should also possess great communication skills and the ability to pay attention to detail.
Key Responsibilities
- Lab-scale and pilot-scale tests at Austin facility on the bipolar electrodialysis units for production of lithium hydroxide.
- Coordinating with upstream and downstream process leaders for continuous movement of materials through the pilot train.
- Basic modeling of sizing and scale-up of electrodialysis systems
- Building electrodialysis stacks at all scales (lab, pilot, demo, commercial)
- Opportunity to assist in commissioning of demo unit at EnergyX field site in Texarkana
- Witness and assist with commissioning of roll-to-roll ion exchange membrane production line
- Work with membrane chemists to scale up developed chemistries from lab to production.
Qualifications
- Basic understanding of flows, instrumentation, and data taking from experiments
- Good communication skills
- Experience with basic process modeling and techno-economic analysis with Excel
- Attention to detail
- Work on membrane materials will require polymer chemistry experience, but not necessary
