1. Equipment Used on the Lifting OperationsDeck :
Cranes : These are the primary lifting equipment used to move heavy loads.Offshore cranes, container cranes, and mobile cranes may all beused depending on theoperation.Winches andHoists : Used for pulling or lifting equipment andmaterials vertically orhorizontally.Slings, Shackles, and Rigging Gear : Various tools are used to secureloads before lifting, including wire ropes, synthetic slings, andshackles.Lifting Beams andSpreaders : These tools help distribute weight evenlyand reduce the risk of tipping or damage tomaterials.Deck Cargo HandlingEquipment : In addition to lifting equipment, otherspecialized tools like forklifts, tugs, and tractors may be used tomove materials around the deckarea.2. PersonnelInvolved in LiftingOperations :
LiftingOperations Coordinator : Oversees and plans alllifting operations, ensuring they are executed safely andefficiently.Riggers : Responsible for securing loads, preparing rigging systems, andensuring safety duringlifts.CraneOperators : Operate cranes and hoisting equipmentduring liftingoperations.Signalmen / DeckCrew : Provide hand signals or radio communication toguide crane operators during liftingoperations.SafetyOfficers : Monitor operations to ensure compliancewith safety regulations andprocedures.MaintenancePersonnel : Ensure that all lifting equipment is ingood working order by performing inspections, repairs, andmaintenance.3. Planning and Coordination of LiftingOperations :
LiftPlan : A detailed plan is developed for each liftingoperation, identifying the weight and type of load, the equipmentto be used, and the personnel involved. The plan includes a safetyassessment, such as risk evaluations for potential hazards (e.g.,weather conditions, loadstability).LoadCalculations : Before any lifting operation, calculations are made to ensure the equipment being used (such ascranes or hoists) can safely handle the weight of theload.WeatherConsiderations : Offshore lifting operations arehighly influenced by weather conditions such as wind, waves, andvisibility. Lifting may be delayed or suspended if the weatherposes a safety risk.EquipmentInspections : Before starting any lift, equipment isthoroughly checked to ensure it is in proper working condition. This includes the crane, rigging, and all associatedgear.Key Skills
