AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIES
The plant manager is responsible for leading all operational aspects of the facility and ensuring safety, quality, and efficiency while driving accountability and process improvement. This individual will be the key driver behind the plant’s Operating System, developing and executing processes that align with business objectives. Focusing on leadership, employee development, and collaboration is critical to ensure sustainable growth and operational success.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Serve as the primary driver of the plant’s Operating System, ensuring alignment with company policies and objectives.
- Oversee safety, quality, delivery, and resource development processes, ensuring all operational teams effectively execute established policies.
- Collaborate with support teams to refine and implement best practices and policies.
- Develop, execute, and sustain processes to meet operational standards and business goals.
- Hold teams accountable for achieving key performance indicators (KPIs) such as safety, quality, labor utilization, earned hours, and burn hours.
- Leverage data and KPIs to manage performance, identify gaps, and implement corrective actions.
- Drive lean manufacturing principles with a pragmatic approach to eliminate waste and improve efficiency.
- Ensure integration across safety, quality, and production systems, understanding their interdependencies.
- Manage operational budgets, productivity metrics, and cost-control measures.
- Utilize data-driven insights to optimize labor utilization, reduce downtime, and enhance overall efficiency.
- Coach and develop leaders and technical staff, building a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
- Identify and cultivate high-potential employees, fostering leadership and technical skills.
- Provide clear communication and direction to align teams with business goals.
- Promote a culture of collaboration across all levels of the business to ensure information flow and alignment.
- Effectively present data, insights, and operational updates to stakeholders and senior leadership.
- Maintain open lines of communication to support teamwork and transparency.
- Ensure safety programs are integrated with quality and operational processes to minimize risks and enhance performance.
- Monitor and uphold compliance with safety and quality standards.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
This role is primarily based on the floor, working around moving mechanical parts and in outdoor conditions that may include inclement weather, heat, and humidity. Some work is conducted in an office setting at a desk or computer. The noise level can be loud at times.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Must be able to move objects and use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue. Constant movement and use of limbs; this position requires good manual dexterity, coordination, and stamina. Must be able to lift 50 or more pounds at a time.
Qualifications
EDUCATION AND/OR TRAINING
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Operations Management, or a related field; equivalent experience will be considered.
- 7 years of experience in manufacturing operations, including roles at the plant management level.
- Proven track record of executing and sustaining process improvements using lean manufacturing principles.
- Strong business and financial acumen, with expertise in labor utilization, earned hours, and productivity metrics.
- Demonstrated success in coaching and developing leaders across technical and leadership domains.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with an emphasis on collaboration and data-driven decision-making.
- Proficiency in ERP systems and KPI management tools.
