Job Title: Assistant Welding/Fabrication Project Manager

Job Summary
The Assistant Welding/Fabrication Project Manager is responsible for supporting the planning, execution, and finalization of welding and fabrication projects. This includes overseeing welding teams, ensuring quality control, managing timelines and budgets, and ensuring compliance with safety standards. The role requires strong technical knowledge in welding and fabrication processes, along with project management skills to coordinate complex projects from initiation to completion.
Key Responsibilities
Project Planning and Execution
○ Assist in developing project scopes, timelines, budgets, and resources for
welding and fabrication jobs.
○ Coordinate material procurement, scheduling of personnel, and allocation of
machinery and tools.
○ Prepare and maintain detailed project schedules using project management
software, ensuring deadlines are met.
Team Leadership and Management
○ Supervise and provide direction to welding crews and fabricators.
○ Communicate project goals, timelines, and expectations clearly to all team
members.
○ Resolve day-to-day issues or challenges that may arise.
○ Conduct performance evaluations, provide feedback and coaching, and
recognize achievements to promote employee engagement, retention, and
career development.
Quality Assurance
○ Monitor and inspect welding and fabrication work to ensure it meets both
company standards and client specifications.
○ Collaborate with quality assurance teams to conduct testing, inspections, and
certifications of welds and fabricated components.
Safety and Compliance
○ Must adhere to all Safe Practices, wearing and caring for all PPE required by
OSHA and Company Policy
○ Conduct regular safety meetings and training sessions with employees.
○ Monitor and maintain accurate safety records.
Customer Communication
○ Serve as the point of contact between the client and the company, providing
regular project updates.
○ Address any client concerns or changes to the project scope, ensuring
satisfaction throughout the project lifecycle.
○ Foster strong relationships with key suppliers and vendors, negotiating pricing,
terms, and conditions to achieve cost savings, quality improvements, and service
enhancements.
Documentation and Reporting
○ Maintain thorough project documentation, including blueprints, material lists and
welding certifications.
○ Prepare and submit detailed reports on project status, including any deviations
from the schedule or budget.
Perform other tasks as required by management.
Skills and Qualifications
● Technical Expertise:
○ Strong knowledge of welding and fabrication techniques.
○ Experience with metals such as steel, aluminum, and stainless steel.
○ Familiarity with the operation of fabrication tools, including cutting torches,
grinders, and bending equipment.
● Project Management Skills:
○ Understanding of project management methodologies, including budgeting,
scheduling, and risk management.
○ Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
● Leadership:
○ Strong leadership and interpersonal skills with experience managing teams.
○ Ability to motivate and mentor crew members, fostering a culture of collaboration
and efficiency.
● Problem-Solving:
○ Quick decision-making and problem-solving abilities, particularly in high-pressure
environments.
● Safety Awareness:
○ Deep knowledge of workplace safety requirements, including PPE, machinery
safeguards, and hazardous material handling.
Experience and Education
○ High school diploma or equivalent, associate degree preferred.
○ Relevant certifications are highly desirable.
○ Minimum of 5 years of experience in welding or fabrication.
○ Minimum 3 years experience in Project Management.
○ Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office applications such as Word and Excel.
○ Candidates must carry a valid drivers license.
Working Environment
● Manufacturing shop working environment necessary to perform all essential job functions with reasonable accommodations compliant with EEOC enforced ADA guidelines. Noise level is mostly low to high. Must be able to communicate clearly and relate well to others. Must be able to lift, up to 50 lbs., stand, sit, and walk for extended periods of time, bend, kneel, twist, and squat as needed to perform the essential functions of the position.
