Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Lead Civil Structural Designer to oversee and execute the design and drafting of structural systems and civil works for industrial, commercial, or infrastructure projects. The successful candidate will lead a team of designers and drafters, coordinate with engineers and other disciplines, and ensure that all designs meet project specifications, codes, and standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the civil/structural design team on assigned projects from concept through construction.
- Develop and oversee the creation of detailed civil and structural design drawings using CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Revit, MicroStation).
- Interpret and apply relevant codes, standards, and client specifications (e.g., ACI, AISC, ASCE, local building codes).
- Collaborate with civil/structural engineers to develop efficient and cost-effective designs.
- Review and check design drawings, calculations, and documentation for accuracy and compliance.
- Coordinate design work with other disciplines (mechanical, electrical, piping, etc.) to ensure integration and avoid clashes.
- Prepare quantity take-offs, bill of materials, and design deliverables in accordance with project timelines.
- Participate in client meetings and design reviews, and address comments or revisions as needed.
- Mentor junior designers and drafters, providing technical guidance and quality oversight.
- Assist with site visits, surveys, and construction support when required.
Qualifications:
- Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering Technology or related field.
- 8 years of experience in civil/structural design, with at least 2 years in a lead or senior designer role.
- Proficiency in CAD tools such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Revit, or MicroStation.
- Strong understanding of structural detailing, foundations, steel and concrete design, and site development.
- Familiarity with structural analysis software is a plus (e.g., STAAD.Pro, RISA).
- Excellent organizational, leadership, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Physical Conditions and Working Environment:
- Primarily office-based with extended periods of sitting and computer use.
- Occasional travel to project sites, or construction areas may be required.
- Field visits may involve walking on uneven terrain, climbing ladders or stairs, and exposure to varying weather conditions.
- May be required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) when visiting active construction sites.
- Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally (e.g., carrying drawings, equipment, or field tools).
