Engineering Partners (EPI) is a well-known engineering company in San Diego with utility, municipality, and government contracts focusing on electrical and power engineering.

We are currently seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer with a BSEE degree or equivalent, PE licensed in the State of California (preferred) and have 4 years of recent relevant experience in power distribution design.

Duties and responsibilities of an Electrical Engineer

  • Responsible for the design of electrical and control systems that include power plants, substations emergency generator systems, medium voltage and low voltage power distribution systems, lighting design, fire alarm, security systems, and communication systems.
  • Prepare design drawings, specifications, develop cost estimates, electrical studies, reports, and Supervision Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems.
  • Perform electrical design calculations for load flow analysis, short circuit analysis, coordination studies, arc flash analysis, voltage drop, grounding systems, and lighting.
  • Review and approve electrical shop drawings, product data, and contractor submittals.
  • Review and respond to contractor requests for information (RFIs). Conduct field surveys, site inspections, and develop punch lists.
  • Have a working knowledge of Code (NEC / CEC) and Energy Standards (Title 24 / LEED).
  • Coordinate and control development of projects from concept design through completion of design and construction administration.

Qualifications of an Electrical Engineer

  • BS Electrical Engineering – required.
  • Professional Electrical Engineer – California – preferred
  • Experience with MEP firm required.
  • Project experience should include electrical repair projects, new construction, rehabilitation, and installation of electrical utilities, medium / low voltage power distribution, motor protection. industrial / process controls, coordination studies, and short circuit analysis.
  • Experience developing wiring diagrams and understanding medium voltage switchgear controls schematics, motor control center controls, control panels, and PLC wiring diagrams.
  • Competent use of Engineering Software Applications : AutoCAD , SKM Power Tools, Microsoft Office, Outlook, and Lighting Software (Visual or AGi32).
  • Ability to problem solve and troubleshoot as the need arises.
  • Ability to read floor plans, sections and elevations, risers, details, schedules, and specifications.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • U.S. Citizenship or Legal Permanent Resident status required.
