The Role
Reporting to the Leader, Accident Benefits, the Subrogation Specialist is responsible for managing subrogation activities across all lines of business, including Auto and Property, and across several policy types such as Residential, Farm, Commercial, Accident Benefits, and Bodily Injury.
This individual plays a critical role in identifying, evaluating, and pursuing subrogation opportunities to support the company’s financial performance. From investigations to settlements, they apply subject matter expertise to strengthen internal practices and collaborate across the claims department, especially during peak periods or catastrophic events.
Key Responsibilities
● Investigate and negotiate settlements with third parties on subrogation matters
● Represent the company in small claims court proceedings
● Collaborate with legal counsel to prepare court documents, evidence, and statements
● Maintain strong legal and technical knowledge related to subrogation
● Manage recoveries across subrogation types (property, auto, loss transfer, priority, overpayments, etc.)
● Ensure financial accuracy through proactive reserve management
● Support claims teams with guidance and consultative input

Qualifications
● Minimum 5 years of experience in P&C insurance, with direct claims and subrogation experience
● Post-secondary education
● CIP designation completed or in progress
● Strong negotiation, analytical, and problem-solving skills
● Detail-oriented with excellent judgment and decision-making abilities
● Paralegal license with the Law Society of Ontario is an asset
● Proficiency with Microsoft Office; familiarity with Guidewire ClaimCenter is an asset
● Understanding of case law and insurance policies across personal, commercial, and farm lines
