THE OPPORTUNITY
The incumbent, reporting to the Director of Underwriting, is responsible for managing the Operational Underwriting and Loss Prevention teams through the assigned leaders of each line of business. They share accountability with a leadership team for successfully executing the company's goals, plans, and strategy. The incumbent is accountable for achieving profitable revenue targets and overseeing the Underwriting leadership to maximize operational efficiencies and performance.

They share accountability with a leadership team for successfully executing the company's goals, plans, and strategy. The incumbent is accountable for achieving profitable revenue targets and overseeing the Underwriting leadership to maximize operational efficiencies and performance.
In this role, the incumbent will demonstrate strong people leadership, industry knowledge, and the application of best practices aligned with the organization's objectives. They will provide agile leadership and direction to employees, ensuring compliance with Underwriting policies and procedures.
In coordination with the Director, the incumbent will support corporate decisions on the Underwriting handling philosophy. They will champion and manage the Underwriting leadership through effective performance management, change management, and optimization while driving continuous improvement, frontline accountability, and exceptional member service.

Completion of post-secondary education in a relevant field

Strong computer literacy, and proficiency in Microsoft Office
Strong analytical, planning, prioritization, and execution skills
Thorough attention to detail for accurate underwriting documents
Certified Insurance Professional/Fellowship designation is an asset
Sound ethics, confidentiality, and ability to build trusting relationships
Well-developed diplomacy, negotiation, and people management skills

Oversees and supports front-line leader recruitment and selection
Promotes team building, employee empowerment, and development opportunities
Consults with reinsurers to communicate, coordinate changes, and resolve concerns
Builds strategies and culture centered around ease of business for members and clients
Enables the organization's profitable growth strategy through brokerage value propositions
Embraces and demonstrates the core values and principles of the organization in all relationships
Drives employee accountability, continuous improvement, standardization, and process efficiencies
Owns the organizational image as a figurehead in community initiatives and company representation
Leads key initiatives within Underwriting and Loss Prevention, providing input, leadership, and monitoring
Leads and performs quality assurance audits on leader-level transactions, ensuring compliance with internal controls
Participates with the Director in departmental budget development and management within the delegation of authority
Actively participates in organizational leadership meetings, initiatives, and industry functions related to strategic priorities
Builds and maintains strong working relationships, using influence and negotiation skills to gain support and foster engagement
Leads the enhancement of sustainable employee engagement through effective communication, recognition, and authentic leadership
Oversees manages, and coaches the Underwriting team through talent development, performance management, and succession planning
Manages the Underwriting team's capacity to maintain industry-leading Service Level Agreements, developing and executing mitigation plans
Supports the Director in developing the vision, strategy, and direction for the Underwriting and Loss Prevention teams to ensure a high-performing, aligned organization
