What are the responsibilities and job description for the Residential Construction Superintendent position at EngineHouse?
Construction Superintendent
The Construction Superintendent, or “ CS”, describes an experienced leader and organizer, familiar with all processes, trades, technologies and materials within single-family residential and small-scale commercial construction projects. They are the “superior technicians” or most experienced mind and problem-solver for any given job-site. The Construction Superintendent’s daily responsibilities include engaging in all areas and aspects of a construction project, implementing plans and directives to EH staff members and subcontractors, and guiding a project to successful completion. EH defines a successful project as: maintaining project timeline and budget/time allowances per task, ensuring quality work that meets or exceeds the expectations or specifications of the client and/or EH DoC, and collaborates and facilitates decision-making on the project with the EH Construction Project Manager.
Collaborating with an EH Construction Project Manager on a daily basis ensures that conversations and subject-threads are addressed or delegated for assignment, especially for receipt capture and changes to contractual scope-of-work. These two positions work hand-in-hand; the CS focuses on the site-work, the CPM focuses on the client experience and expense tracking. CS’s and CPM’s also work together to define labor-needs and weekly/monthly scheduling. The Director of Construction will check-in for scheduling, project updates and personnel considerations.
The Construction Superintendent is the technician and curator of the EH brand & aesthetic. The position requires the construction & carpentry experience only gained through 5 years or performing similar work. EH expects the Superintendent to teach, lead by example, demonstrate, and explain those valuable life & jobsite lessons to other staff members, so that the CS can better delegate with confidence and hold EH staff accountable for their actions and quality of work. EngineHouse is built on relationships, repeat clients, and reputation marketing. The EH Construction Superintendent creates an environment that promotes a holistic approach by empowering team members and subordinates to design & build to their full potential or skill level.
Compensation: $30-40/hour, depending on experience and skill level
Schedule: 9am-5pm M-F, with the possibility of flexible arrangements
Benefits: Two Weeks PTO, health insurance stipend
