 Who we are looking for...

We are seeking a Planner responsible for assisting with technical research, data collection and analysis, report writing, preparing plans and studies, and filing applications to local and regional government or agencies related to land development projects. The following skills will be required for this position: 

  • Provide advice concerning land development review and entitlement processes.
  • Create and interpret maps, plans, exhibits, and diagrams.
  • Advise internal project teams on regulatory planning and zoning matters related to comprehensive plans and land development regulations including future land use, zoning, concurrency/mobility fees, design standards and development review processes.
  • Coordinate with government or agency reviewers with respect to interpretation or application of land development regulations.
  • Assist with preliminary site feasibility studies (due diligence) of property on behalf of owners or prospective buyers.
  • Prepare and file or assist with applications for comprehensive plan amendments, rezoning, exceptions, variances, concurrency, mobility fees and site plans.
  • Prepare or assist with the land use component of transit or traffic studies.
  • Provide guidance during the site planning process concerning regulatory requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in planning or related field; Master’s preferred.
  • Minimum one (1) year experience with local government regulatory requirements and processes. Experience may be public, private or a combination of both.
  • Receive AICP certification within three (3) years of employment.

  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of planning and zoning.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and ArcGIS; knowledge of Photoshop, InDesign, and/or Microsoft Project a plus.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Able to work and interact with local review agency staff.
  • Able to work effectively on a multi-disciplined project team.
  • Able to work on multiple projects concurrently.
  • Able to read/analyze/interpret data and land use regulations.
  • Able to assist in the preparation of presentations using PowerPoint and other exhibits.
  • Able to attend to details with accuracy and be careful and thorough in completing tasks.
  • Able to receive and accept considerable supervision from senior level staff.
  • Able to be reliable, responsible, dependable, and follow through on fulfilling obligations.
  • Able to interact pleasantly with others and display a cooperative attitude.
  • Ability and willingness to accept responsibilities and challenges.
  • Able to analyze information and use logic to address work-related issues and problems.
