    POSITION SUMMARY:
    This position involves teaching vocal music to middle and high school students, with a focus on musical theatre. The teacher will foster a positive, creative learning environment and integrate musical theatre techniques alongside vocal instruction. They will encourage parent and guardian involvement through open houses, volunteer opportunities, and conferences, particularly around performances. The teacher will use technology to enhance the program and boost student engagement. Collaboration with the school community and external stakeholders will be key to supporting student success and promoting a collaborative atmosphere for both music and theatre.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
    • Plan and deliver engaging vocal music lessons for students in both middle and high school, incorporating musical theatre techniques.
    • Teach vocal techniques, including proper breathing, pitch control, tone quality, diction, vocal health, and performance techniques specific to musical theatre, such as character development, emotional expression, and stage presence.
    • Provide student engagement through questioning, speculation, and originality, while encouraging students to explore a wide range of musical theatre styles and characters.
    • Assess student progress regularly through performances, individual evaluations, and feedback, with specific attention to their growth in musical theatre performance skills.
    • Create and maintain lesson plans that include musical theatre repertoire, ensuring alignment with curriculum goals and state standards for music education.
    • Use assessment data for evaluation and refinement of instructional practices, including techniques for vocal and theatrical performance.
    • Provide individualized instruction for students with varying skill levels and musical backgrounds, offering support for both vocal technique and theatrical performance in musical theatre.
    • Collaborate with other school staff, including instrumental music teachers, drama teachers, and administrators, for school-wide events, musical productions, and programs, ensuring integration of musical theatre components.
    • Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages student creativity, self-expression, and teamwork, specifically through collaborative musical theatre productions and performances.
    • Manage classroom behavior in a way that ensures a safe, respectful, and focused learning environment, especially in group rehearsals for musical theatre productions.
    • Maintain communication with parents and guardians about student progress, performances, and upcoming events, particularly regarding musical theatre productions and rehearsals.
    • Stay up-to-date with music education trends, new vocal techniques, musical theatre pedagogy, and technology in music education.
    • Maintain accurate records of student grades, attendance, evaluations, and performance participation in musical theatre productions.
    • Advocate for the importance of music and musical theatre education within the school and the larger community.
    • Actively participate in all staff meetings, PLCs, and other required events, sharing insights about music and musical theatre instruction.
    • Perform other related duties as assigned or requested, including involvement in the planning and execution of musical theatre performances and productions.

    SUPERVISION/TECHNICAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
    May provide supervision of support personnel.
    Conduct supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to interview participation, training/development, assign and direct work, performance feedback, address complaints and resolve problems.

    BUDGET AND/OR RESOURCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
    Prioritize and schedule work tasks independently.
    Manage and maintain inventory of equipment and assessments.
    Project needs for budget planning.
    Maintain administrative records in accordance with professional standards, state guidelines, and school system policy.
    Review services for improvements and make changes as needed to ensure quality of services.

    EDUCATION/TRAINING/EXPERIENCE:
    Bachelor of Arts in Education with instrumental, theater arts and/or vocal music major.
    Master of Arts (preferred).
    Secondary experience (preferred).
    Bilingual (preferred).
    English fluency will be determined through the application and interview process.

    LICENSES OR CERTIFICATIONS:
    Valid Colorado Driver’s License.
    Valid Colorado Teacher License.

    ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
    Frequent lifting 5 (five) to 10 (ten) pounds.
    Occasional lifting of up to one hundred fifty (150) pounds.
    Frequent sitting, bending, walking, and standing.
    Occasional bending, stooping, walking, standing, kneeling, squatting, and reaching.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT:
    The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.
    Mostly clean and comfortable.

    The Englewood Campus (Englewood High School and Englewood Middle School)

    SALARY:
    Salary placement from $52.674 - $101,505 based upon education, experience and Master Agreement. Current Salary Schedule posted at Salary Schedules - Englewood Schools.

    ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
    New hires or rehires will be responsible for the fingerprint processing fee required for background checks through the Colorado Bureau of Investigation.

    Per the negotiated agreement, all teachers that start after student first day are temporary.
