Due to the Emergency On-Call requirements of this position, you must live within 10 miles of the Englewood Water District office.


Collections Maintenance Technician must possess  a minimum of a Class "C" Collections Certification. Certified Technician starting pay is $21.05 per hour and up dependent of experience.

Collections Maintenance Technician Trainee must possess a High School Diploma or equivalent. Technician Trainee starting pay is $20.04 per hour.

JOB SUMMARY

This position is responsible for completing skilled tasks in construction, maintenance, and the repair of wastewater systems located in Englewood, FL by operating a variety of light and moderately heavy power-driven equipment.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Operates light and heavy power-driven equipment, such as excavators, semi-trucks, backhoes, and a wide variety of power tools.
  • Ensures public health and safety by preventing, and/or responding to sewage overflows and blockages.
  • Cleans, inspects, constructs, and repairs wastewater collection systems including sanitary sewers, pump stations, pipes, manholes, and catch basins.
  • Organizes the lift station rehab parts list and ensures that parts are repaired or changed in a timely manner.
  • Maintains sewer collection system, including the Airvac collection system as well as traditional gravity sewer with lift stations.
  • Conducts electrical troubleshooting of lift station and Airvac station panels.
  • Creates maps and records drawings of any repairs done or changes made to systems.
  • Performs on-call duties for emergencies within district boundaries while on assignment.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Special Qualifications:

Possession of a valid, State of Florida Driver’s License Class “E” required; minimum of a Class “B” Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) preferred. Candidate must be able to obtain a Class “A” Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) within 6 months of employment. 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 
  • Knowledge of application methods and techniques of the functions of assigned area.
  • Knowledge of the types and uses of material and equipment of assigned area.
  • Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade and the ability to maintain safe working conditions. 
  • Ability and skill in the use and care of tools, materials and equipment used in the trades to which assigned, performing heavy manual work as required.
  • Ability to work overtime and/or be on call.
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in person and in writing.
  • Ability to read and follow written instructions and understand and follow verbal instructions.
  • Ability to plan, organize and use mature judgment in evaluating situations and making decisions in accordance with established policy. 
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the public.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The work is very heavy work which requires exerting more than 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or more than 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or more than 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Must be able to perform strenuous physical activities in adverse weather conditions with extreme temperature variations (hot / cold). Frequent exposure to noxious fumes, dust, chemicals, insects, heights and confined areas, and excessive noise. Frequent sitting and twisting during the operation of heavy equipment. Constant standing, walking, climbing, balancing, stooping & bending, kneeling, crawling, reaching overhead, grasping with use of hands & arms, pushing, pulling, digging. Vision and hearing must be correctable. Position requires the operation of various heavy construction equipment, machinery, and hand tools.
