What are the responsibilities and job description for the Life and Activity Director position at English Meadows Senior Living Communities?
English Meadows is currently looking an outgoing individual who has a passion for fitness and recreation! Here at English Meadows, we strive to provide the best quality of life for our Residents and one way we do that is through our Activity Department. This individual will be responsible for managing and organizing small group activities, events, outings & a variety of other activities for our Residents.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
- Associates degree in Recreation Therapy, health education or related field (Preferred)
- Two or more years of direct programming experience with seniors (Preferred)
- Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel (Preferred)
JOB TYPE:
- Full-Time; Salary
- Monday – Friday (generally, unless events are scheduled for weekends)
MINIMUM ELIGIBILTY REQUIREMENTS:
- Certification as required by State regulations for activities.
- Ability to represent the Community in a positive and professional manner.
- Ability to establish effective relationships with residents, family members and staff.
- Requires current First Aid and CPR certification.
- Or be willing to receive upon hire. Company will provide
- Must have valid driver’s license.
- Must pass criminal background check.
- Must be able to perform duties and responsibilities (essential job functions), with or without reasonable accommodation.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- High level of ability in effective and succinct communication, written and oral with residents, families, staff, vendors and the general public.
- Responsible for the daily fitness activity schedule for all levels of ability seven (5-7) days a week and develop monthly calendar and newsletter.
- Attends management meetings.
- Maintains inventory of supplies and manages budget for department.
- Must have compassion for and desire to work with the elderly.
- Must demonstrate the ability to work responsibly as a team member as well as an individual.
- Must have exceptional organizational skills.
- Must have experience in planning, organizing and executing a varied schedule of life enrichment opportunities for all levels of seniors from those who are very active to those more reserved.
- Ability to set up and train volunteers.
- Educates, trains and encourages team members on fitness & life enrichment opportunities to make meaningful connections.
- Work with Resident Engagement Liaison on monthly newsletter.
- Develops and pursues a varied program of meaningful activities and events that is balanced in the physical, spiritual, intellectual, social, emotional, vocational and cognitive elements.
- Meets and greets each person upon move-in to welcome them and their family and friends to the Community.
- Arranges for community groups to come into the Community, such as pet therapy, schools, churches, and entertainers.
- Decorates the common areas for special events and holidays.
- Conducts individual and group interactions.
- Leads and develops family support group meetings.
- Interacts with local media to promote the life enrichment program in the external community.
- Develops a program of outings that encourages the people who live at Bermuda Village to be involved in their external community.
- Any other duties assigned by the Executive Director.
Residents’ rights:
- Ensure compliance and understanding of all regulations regarding residents’ rights.
Working conditions (travel, hours, environment):
- Is subject to frequent interruptions.
- Is involved with resident, personnel, and visitors under all conditions and circumstances.
- Is subject to hostile and emotionally upset residents, family members, staff and visitors.
- Communicates with the medical staff, nursing personnel and other department supervisors and staff.
- Works beyond normal working hours, and in other positions temporarily, when necessary.
- Is subject to callback during emergency conditions (e.g., severe weather, evacuation, post-disaster, etc.).
- Meet and greet visitors in a friendly, helpful manner (Visitors include anyone who visits the community; specifically, current residents’ families and friends, prospective residents and their families, referral sources, vendors, and regulators).
- Answer phones appropriately, according to company and community standards.
- Communicate professionally and cooperate with supervisor and all community personnel.
- Monitor and evaluate customer satisfaction. Work as a part of the team to develop appropriate action plans to continually improve satisfaction levels.
