Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Power Electrical EPC Project Manager – Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will possess a P.E. certification in Electrical Engineering and have experience in high voltage power systems, including power utility transmission and distribution.  This role involves the specification, procurement, and quality control of major equipment and tagged items, as well as conducting load flow, short circuit, coordination, arch flash, and harmonic studies using ETAP and/or SKM. Comfortable working in a small team / fast paced environment as a contributor with staff that are multi-disciplined and work together in a cross functional approach to project execution.  Proficiency in utilizing MS Project to produce required deliverables for engineering design, construction, and project documentation. Experience in both remote field sites, process plant / heavy industrial substations, switch stations, motor control center engineering design, technical procurement support, project management, and construction is highly desirable. Additionally, the candidate should have working knowledge of data center and other high voltage power consumer requirements, power generation by natural gas or renewable feedstocks, grid balancing, power sales to electric utilities, water cooling and treating requirements, electric utility permitting, construction permitting, and substation commissioning and start-up.

Qualifications


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Professional Engineering (P.E.) Certification:
    • Maintain and utilize P.E. certification in Electrical Engineering for Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, and additional states preferable.
  2. High Voltage Power Electrical Systems:
    • Design, analyze, and manage construction of high voltage power electrical systems.
    • Ensure compliance with industry standards and safety regulations.
  3. Major Equipment and Tagged Item Procurement:
    • Specification:
      • Develop project detailed specifications for major equipment and tagged items, cable, distribution, buildings, and civil / structural requirement.
    • Requisition:
      • Prepare and process requisitions for procurement.
    • Bid Tabulation and Selection:
      • Evaluate and condition bids, and select appropriate vendors.
    • Quality Control (QC), Inspection, and Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT):
      • Specify and review ITPs from suppliers and contractors
      • Conduct quality control, inspections, and factory acceptance testing to ensure equipment meets specifications.
  4. Harmonic Studies and Power System Modeling:
    • Perform harmonic studies using ETAP and/or SKM software to ensure system reliability and performance.
    • Conduct power system modeling to analyze and optimize electrical systems.
  5. Technical Drawings and Documentation:
    • Work with engineers, designers, and vendors to create and review drawings for all necessary manufactured equipment, and construction drawings using AutoCAD, SKM and or ETAP modeling, excel, databases and other required software.
    • Coordinate and approve deliverables required with design, procurement, and construction personnel.
    • Utilize Document Control effectively ensuring all documentation is accurate and up to date.
    • Understanding and proficiency utilizing CadWorx Electrical & Instrumentation, Smart Plant Electric & nTools Instrument or similar electrical instrument design software is a plus.
  6. Substation and Switch Station Engineering Design:
    • Lead engineering design projects for substations and switch stations for stand-alone field locales; process plants are a plus.
  7. Project Management:
    • Manage project timelines, budgets, and resources effectively.
    • Maintain cost/budget tracking and report monthly
    • Oversee project management activities, ensuring projects are completed on time and within budget.
    • Coordinate and manage cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
    • Maintains project schedule with critical path materials and resource planning.
    • Capital Estimates – participate and finalize cost and schedule for all major equipment, tagged items, bulk materials, labor for engineering / design, construction, heavy cranes, and major civil requirements.
    • Proposal Management – contribute to creation and finalization of Engineering and EPC proposals, technical descriptions and supporting documents, execution plan, and schedule.
    • Facilitate communication with internal and external stakeholders from bid to final acceptance.
    • Contract review and management for reimbursable T&M and Lump Sum projects.
    • Develop multi discipline and cross functional personnel required for small team fast paced projects.
  8. Construction Support (Preferred):
    • Provide support during the construction phase, ensuring adherence to safety protocols, design specifications, and addressing any issues that arise.
  9. High Power Consumer Requirements:
    • Understand and manage the power requirements for AI data centers and Bitcoin mining operations
    • Ensure efficient power distribution and cooling solutions.
  10. Power Generation by Natural Gas or Renewable Feedstock:
    • Design and manage power generation systems using natural gas or renewable feedstock
  11. Grid Balancing:
    • Implement strategies for grid balancing to ensure stable and reliable power supply
  12. Power Sales to Electric Utilities:
    • Understand technical information required to support our client’s management of power sales agreements and relationships with electric utilities
  13. Water Cooling and Treating Requirements:
    • Design and manage water cooling and treatment systems for power equipment
  14. Electric Utility Permitting:
    • Navigate the permitting process for electric utility projects
  15. Construction Permitting:
    • Provide technical documentation required by our clients to Obtain necessary permits for construction projects
  16. Substation Commissioning and Start-Up:
    • Oversee the commissioning and start-up of substations to ensure they are operational and meet all specifications

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in high voltage power electrical systems.
  • Proficiency in ETAP, SKM,  MS Project, oversight of AutoCAD
  • Strong understanding of engineering design specifications, drawings, and construction documentation.
  • Experience in substation, switch station engineering design and project management.
  • Knowledge of AI data center and Bitcoin mining power requirements.
  • Experience with power generation by natural gas or renewable feedstock.
  • Understanding of grid balancing and power sales to electric utilities.
  • Knowledge of water cooling and treating requirements.
  • Experience with electric utility and construction permitting.
  • Construction experience is a plus.

 

CERTIFICATIONS

  • P.E. certification in Electrical Engineering for Texas, Oklahoma, and/or Louisiana and in good standing.
  • Basic Orientation Plus - Health and Safety Council®
  • Transportation Worker Identity Card (TWIC) - Transportation Security Administration (TSA)[RJ1] 

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering with at least 5 years of experience in high voltage power systems

 

KEY INTERACTIONS

  • Clients and/or customers – must have a sense of urgency in responding to and servicing customers.

           

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND DEMANDS

Work Environment

  • This position is primarily based in an office setting with minimal exposure to hazards.
  • Travel is estimated to range from 0-25%, depending on client needs. This may include site or plot visits, and vendor check-ins. Brief exposure to outdoor weather conditions may occur during site visits.

 

Physical Demands      

  • The role requires the employee to walk and stand for extended periods as necessary.
  • Significant portions of the work will involve using a computer, requiring the use of vision and manual dexterity for prolonged periods.
