Mechanical Engineer – Downhole Production Tools
About the Role
We are seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer to lead the design, development, and qualification testing of downhole production tools for oil and gas wells, ensuring they meet customer requirements. This role also involves maintaining and improving existing designs while providing technical expertise and leadership to the engineering team. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, hands-on, and thrives in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Design & Development: Create and refine mechanical systems and components, conducting detailed analyses to ensure they meet project specifications.
- Technical Leadership: Guide team members in design, manufacturing, and operational aspects of product development.
- Engineering Analysis: Develop layouts and perform engineering calculations for new and modified equipment.
- Design Review & Optimization: Participate in design reviews, making data-driven recommendations for the best design choices.
- Specification & Testing: Develop installation specifications, commissioning plans, and lead prototype assembly and testing for qualification.
- Manufacturing Support: Review part and assembly drawings, ensuring designs are manufacturable and assembly-friendly.
- Quality Assurance: Establish testing protocols, inspection criteria, and technical maintenance (MRO) best practices for operational teams.
- Documentation: Prepare specifications, assembly procedures, and repair guidelines for new products.
- Troubleshooting & Field Support: Diagnose field-related issues and provide operational best practices.
- Process Improvement: Initiate and approve design changes, test requests, and reports to enhance product performance.
- Project Management: Independently lead projects with minimal supervision while ensuring safety and environmental compliance.
- Field Support: Travel to field locations as needed to support engineering tests and validations.
Qualifications & Experience
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (Master’s preferred).
- Experience: Minimum 5 years (10 years preferred) in new product development, particularly in mechanical design and engineering.
- Industry Knowledge:
- Experience in gas production, separation tools, downhole wireline, or completion tools is preferred but not required.
- Background in sand management, automotive, or industrial equipment is also acceptable.
- Product Development Lifecycle: Experience in all phases—from concept and design to prototyping, testing, manufacturing, and field deployment.
- Technical Skills:
- Hands-on experience with mechanical testing setups to validate performance.
- Strong knowledge of materials selection, including metals, seals, and standard hardware.
- Familiarity with manufacturing processes (casting, machining, heat treatment, fabrication, and assembly).
- Software & Tools:
- Proficiency in 3D modeling software (SolidWorks preferred).
- Experience with JIRA, SAP, NetSuite, and Microsoft Office.
