Job Description
The Psychiatrist will perform psychiatric evaluations on a scheduled and emergency basis, develop and implement treatment plans, and work with the treatment team to optimize care for clients. This site is a Children/Youth Outpatient provider.
Core Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform intakes and diagnostic interviews on a scheduled and emergency basis.
- Make expert diagnosis, interpretation, recommendation in providing consultation to treatment team.
- Participate in clinical staff diagnosis/evaluation of clients in the Outpatient Program.
- Provide medical psychiatric treatment of clients.
- Write prescriptions and monitor medication effectiveness and side effects.
- Be available for consultation and providing information to agencies, which are coordinating their work with that of the clinics.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with administrative, medical and non-medical mental health staff, clients and the general public.
- Assure that the clients admitted to clinics require the level of care in which the different programs offer.
- Serve on the Utilization Review Committee as requested.
- Consult as necessary with the Director of Psychiatric Services on unusual, complex or serious cases.
- Meet with the Director of Psychiatric Services on a regular basis.
- Comply with SD/MC standards for chart documentation.
- Participate in general staff meeting as requested.
Minimum Education and Experience Preferred:
- Master's degree or above in a related field.
- Completion of an approved three (3) year psychiatric residency training program.
- Valid DEA registration.
- Experience working with mental health consumers.
Licenses/Certifications:
- Eligibility for examination and certification by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
- Valid physician and surgeon license to practice medicine in the State of California.
- Eligible to bill for Medicare and Medi-Cal reimbursable services.
- Valid California driver's license, current automobile insurance, and eligibility to drive for the Company.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- The principles of methods of psychiatry and general medicine, individual, family and group psychotherapy.
- The use of medications in psychiatric and related conditions.
- Current developments in the field of psychiatry, mental health, alcohol and drug services organizations and procedures.
- The principles and applications of psychiatric social work, clinical psychology, alcohol and drug treatment and various rehabilitation therapies.
- Ability to perform in a positive, courteous, flexible and adaptive manner.
- Able to exercise independent judgment and initiative.
- Computer literate and experienced with computer programs such as Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
- Experience using Exym and/or an electronic medical health record is a plus.
- Must be able clearly to communicate, both orally and in writing.
- Possess excellent organizational skills, including, but not limited to, the ability to prioritize and complete multiple tasks.
- Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus, but is not required.
