POSITION SUMMARY :
The Chaplain supports staff, patients, and their families by contributing to the patient centered mission of Enloe Medical Center. As Chaplain they provide spiritual support to terminally ill patients and their families receiving care in the Hospice department. The Chaplain will make spiritual assessments of patients, considering mental, emotional, physical and spiritual stresses, and respond with appropriate care and counseling. The Chaplain is a member of the interdisciplinary team and will assist the medical staff in developing individualized plans of care for each patient. Additionally, they are expected to assist with administrative support in the department as requested and provide support of on-going department initiatives.
EDUCATION / TRAINING / EXPERIENCE :
Minimum :
Bachelor's degree in Theology, Divinity or Religious Studies
Desired :
Experience with the Medicare Hospice Benefit
Experience in pastoral care, hospital, or death & dying counseling.
LICENSES / CERTIFICATIONS :
Minimum :
Ministerial / Pastoral / Ordination Certificate or functional equivalent
Current CPR certification
Current California Driver's License
Eligible to be insured under the Medical Center's Liability Policy with DMV Report (and minimum age 21)
Proof of current auto insurance coverage (no business exclusion)
SKILLS / KNOWLEDGE / ABILITIES :
Must be a compassionate, emotionally mature professional with excellent interpersonal skills, as well as effective conflict resolution and problem-solving abilities. Knowledge of various spiritual / religious / cultural backgrounds and belief systems. Must possess the ability to minister to patients and families in crisis. Must be self-motivated, diplomatic and work well as part of a team. Must possess excellent communication skills to maintain a high degree of rapport with patients, visitors, volunteers and staff. Analytical and grammatical skills are necessary to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing. Must possess proficient computer knowledge and be capable of using Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook (Microsoft Office Suite). Organizational and multi-tasking skills are essential. Must be able to fulfill the essential functions of the position.
