The Pratt Library has an opening for a Circulation Assistant II to work in the Central Library Circulation Department. This role involves engaging with the public, supporting circulation processes, and ensuring a high-quality customer experience. The position also includes acting as a Passport Acceptance Agent.
This position will be required to work on evenings and weekends, as well as additional branch assignments. This position reports to the Circulation Manager.

Summary of Duties:
- Customer Service: Greet library visitors, respond to questions, and provide information about agency procedures and operations.
- Circulation Support: Manage routine tasks such as customer registration, issuing library cards, processing library materials, updating customer records, monitoring email, and occasionally other administrative duties.
- General Administration: Organize office supplies, sort mail, and handle cash purchases.
- Passport Processing: Serve as a Passport Acceptance Agent, including processing applications, taking photos, collecting fees, and maintaining the office schedule.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a GED certificate.
- One (1) year of experience in customer support and/or administrative support.
- One (1) year of experience with MS Office suite (Word and Excel) and Google Suite.
- Experience using a variety of technologies including Internet browsers, digital resources, mobile devices, and standard office software and email.
- Physical Requirements: Physical exertion such as standing; or recurring activities such as bending, crouching, reaching; pushing loaded book trucks; or recurring lifting of moderately heavy items such as boxes of books or journals.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working in a library or education setting.
- Experience handling cash and cash payments.
- Experience working with vulnerable populations or communities.
- Experience using inventory control systems such as Sirsi Workflows, or other library management systems.
- Experience providing user instruction/teaching customers to use resources or products.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Excellent communication and people skills and requires working with both the public and internal staff.
- Quick learners with a high aptitude for customer service and organizing.
- Self-motivated, patient, flexible, and team players.
- Ability to read small print.
- Aptitude for accuracy and the ability to follow instructions.
- Proficiency with computers, and technology. Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite software programs and Google Applications at an intermediate level.
- Ability to deal courteously with other employees and the public, both in person and by telephone. Ability to locate and retrieve information from a variety of sources and to compile the information following general directions.
- Ability to read, interpret, and follow prescribed word processing operating instructions.
- Demonstrates a proactive attitude toward embracing new challenges and tasks across different branch locations.
- Strong problem-solving skills to address unique situations encountered in diverse branch settings.
- Maintains effective communication and collaboration with teams across all assigned branches.
Position of Trust:
The work of this class has been declared a Position of Trust. A Criminal Background Investigation is required. Appointees must authorize the release of criminal conviction information from the Maryland State Police.
