About the Position
Enquyst Technologies is a rapidly growing, early-stage biotech company that is focused on developing innovative, pathbreaking bioprocess and analytical technologies to significantly improve the process of biological drug development and dramatically reduce the costs of their manufacturing.
Enquyst Technologies is searching for a qualified, highly motivated bioprocess engineer or protein scientist to join our team on the ground floor as a Bioprocess Engineer/Protein Scientist to perform process development activities for a range of biopharmaceutical products using our propriety downstream processing technologies. This position reports directly to the Chief Scientific Officer.
Primary Responsibilities
- Work with the engineering and bioanalytical teams to design and perform appropriate experiments to test and evaluate equipment prototypes and provide feedback for equipment design iterations.
- Perform Design of Experiments (DoEs) with appropriate statistical analysis to inform chemistry development and process optimization
- Perform maintenance of proprietary equipment prototypes.
- Provide strong chemical engineering expertise in bioprocess technology design reviews.
- Communicate results and observations to the analytical, engineering, and process development teams through strong written and oral communication skills.
- Develop effective working relationships with both internal and external partners.
- Maintain GLP compliant lab records, lab notebooks, and procedures.
- Maintain a safety first approach to science and engineering.
- Think creatively, problem solve, and develop innovative solutions based on sound scientific and engineering reasoning.

Qualifications
MS in Chemical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or related field with 2-5 years of relevant hands-on research experience with protein expression, protein purification, or separation science,
or
BS in Chemical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or related field with 5 years of relevant hands-on research experience with protein expression, protein purification, or separation science.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with downstream biopharmaceutical processing and related equipment and instrumentation, including, centrifugation, depth filtration, affinity chromatography, ion-exchange chromatography, tangential flow filtration, ultrafiltration/diafiltration.
- Experience in the design and development of equipment and processes for applications in life sciences.
Required Skills
- Ability to design and execute controlled experiments with a strong attention to detail is essential.
- Strong experience with Design of Experiments (DoE), including statistical analysis software (e.g. JMP)
- Experience with statistical process control, process capability indices, and variation and distribution.
- Strong knowledge of engineering and physics-based theories and concepts, including, fluid dynamics, electrical theory, heat transfer, transport phenomena, and thermodynamics.
- General knowledge in mechanical, electrical, and controls engineering disciplines.
- Driven self-starter with capability to work independently as well as on interdisciplinary teams with chemists, biochemist, biophysicists, biomedical engineers, chemical engineers, mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, controls engineers, analytical chemists, materials scientists, biologists, etc.
- Comfortable working on novel technologies in a fast paced, dynamic start-up environment.
- Proficient computer skills including MS Office and statistical analysis software.
- Proficient oral and written communication skills.
