Position Overview:
Ensign Partners, a leading provider of integrated legal, insurance, financial, and tax/accounting services for small to medium-sized businesses, is seeking an experienced and results-driven Tax Supervisor to join our team. This pivotal role focuses on supervising tax preparation, compliance, and advisory services while mentoring staff and maintaining strong client relationships. Key Responsibilities:
Tax Preparation & Compliance:
- Manage and review federal and state tax returns for individuals, partnerships, S corporations, and C corporations, with a focus on small to medium-sized businesses.
- Ensure tax returns are prepared accurately, comply with current tax laws and regulations, and maximize available credits and deductions for clients.
- Address and resolve complex tax compliance matters.
Tax Planning & Advisory:
- Lead proactive tax planning strategies to help clients minimize liabilities and achieve long-term financial goals.
- Provide guidance to clients on recent changes in tax laws, new regulations, and industry trends.
- Represent clients in tax-related issues, including audits, notices, and inquiries from federal and state tax authorities.
Team Leadership & Staff Development:
- Supervise, mentor, and support the development of junior and senior tax staff, fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement.
- Review and oversee staff work for accuracy, compliance, and alignment with client objectives.
- Provide regular training sessions on tax regulations and software updates to enhance team capabilities.
Client Relationship Management:
- Act as the primary point of contact for key clients, delivering high-quality service and building lasting professional relationships.
- Communicate complex tax concepts in a clear, consultative manner tailored to the client’s needs.
- Identify opportunities to offer additional services, ensuring comprehensive client support.
Accounting Oversight:
- Collaborate with accounting teams to ensure the accuracy of client financial records and timely completion of financial reporting.
- Review and analyze financial data to identify areas for improvement and implement solutions.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA or EA designation preferred).
- 4 years of progressive tax experience, ideally in public accounting or with a focus on small to medium-sized businesses.
- Demonstrated leadership skills, with experience supervising or mentoring tax teams.
- Advanced knowledge of federal and state tax laws, including business (S corp, C corp, partnerships) and individual tax returns.
- Proficiency in tax software (e.g., Intuit ProConnect, Lacerte) and accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks).
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Taxation, Accounting, or a related field.
- Proven track record of successfully managing client-facing responsibilities and resolving complex tax issues.
- Expertise in tax advisory services, including strategic planning and compliance reviews.
- CPA or EA Designation
