Heavy Equipment Mechanic

Location: New Haven, Connecticut

Strategically located in the Port of New Haven, our terminal provides turnkey, vertically integrated logistics services for dry bulk, liquid bulk, and breakbulk products. Terminal History: In 2018 Enstructure acquired Gateway Terminal, a bulk terminals and logistics company. This acquisition expanded Enstructure’s capabilities and footprint, comprised of 22 terminals strategically located near major population hubs along the East Coast, Gulf Coast, and Inland River system. Enstructure provides full-service and reliable logistics solutions to some of the world’s largest companies in the energy, agriculture, food, manufacturing, construction, and public safety sectors.

Position: Heavy Equipment Mechanic

Responsibilities:

  • Perform scheduled maintenance on heavy equipment, including excavators, loaders, dozers, cranes, forklifts, and pay haulers.
  • Diagnose and repair electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical systems.
  • Adhere to company policies and procedures.
  • Complete assigned repairs as designated by the supervisor.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in hydraulic repair (required).
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in diesel repair (preferred).
  • Valid driver’s license (CDL is a plus).
  • Reliable, hardworking, and professional work ethic.
  • Own tools and ability to work independently.
  • Ability to lift, push, or pull 70 pounds, climb heavy equipment safely, bend, kneel, and work with arms raised for prolonged periods.
  • Possess or have the ability to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC).
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening and background check.

Job Description: As a Heavy Equipment Mechanic, you will be responsible for performing scheduled maintenance on heavy equipment, including excavators, loaders, dozers, cranes, forklifts, and pay haulers. This role involves diagnosing and repairing electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical systems, ensuring all equipment operates efficiently and safely. The mechanic will adhere to company policies and procedures, maintaining a compliant and safe work environment. Additionally, the mechanic will complete assigned repairs as designated by the supervisor, ensuring timely and accurate completion of all tasks.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform Scheduled Maintenance: Conduct regular maintenance on a variety of heavy equipment, including excavators, loaders, dozers, cranes, forklifts, and pay haulers, ensuring optimal performance and longevity.
  • Diagnose and Repair Systems: Identify and troubleshoot issues in electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical systems, applying expert knowledge to perform necessary repairs efficiently.
  • Adhere to Company Policies: Follow all company policies and procedures to maintain a safe and compliant work environment.
  • Complete Assigned Repairs: Execute repair tasks as assigned by the supervisor, ensuring timely and accurate completion of all work orders.
  • Collaborate with Team: Work closely with other mechanics and team members to ensure efficient workflow and timely completion of projects.
  • Provide Training: Train junior mechanics and apprentices on proper maintenance and repair techniques.

Physical Demands/Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is required to stand, walk, use hands to handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms. The work environment involves hazards, risks, or discomforts typical of working with or around machinery with exposed moving parts, errant chemicals, heavy equipment, extreme heights, or abusive or hostile clientele and patients. Exposure to disagreeable weather conditions and extreme levels of temperature, ventilation, lighting, and noise levels in the work environment.
