Ensworth School seeks an experienced educator to chair the Middle School Science Department. Department Chairs at Ensworth are vital school leaders who oversee, manage, and inspire the faculty within their departments. Additionally, the middle school department chairs are members of an innovative leadership team that supports a diversity of thought, recognizes great ideas that promote academic excellence, and creatively develops pathways for implementing programs while motivating colleagues. Qualified applicants will have multiple years of teaching experience in a middle school science program and the demonstrated ability to form meaningful relationships with colleagues and students. Prior curriculum development and programmatic leadership experience are strongly desired, including providing growth-oriented feedback and coaching to teachers. Above all, the successful applicant will have demonstrated a commitment to the principles expressed in the Ensworth Vision Statement, executing their role with moral integrity, intellectual vitality, discipline, compassion, humor, and joy.
Interested candidates with prior leadership experience may also be considered for the role of Middle School Science Department Chair. In this capacity, he or she will provide leadership and oversight for the middle school science program, including coordinating with the middle school leadership team and other department chairs to ensure high standards, effective communication, and alignment with Ensworth's mission. The department chair role also involves managing departmental budgets, professional development, and faculty growth. As a leader, the candidate will promote a collaborative and innovative vision for the sciences, represent the department in school-wide meetings, and work with the administration to address operational needs.
Key Responsibilities and Essential Functions :
- Abides by Ensworth's Employee Handbook and Code of Conduct.
- Commits to the ideals expressed in Ensworth's Mission Statement, Vision Statement, and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Statement.
- Adheres to the Essential Expectations of an Ensworth Faculty, Staff, or Administrator
- Teaches four classes per semester within Ensworth's middle school science curriculum.
- Serve as an advisor in support of our student life and experiential learning program.
- Engage in the life of the school beyond classroom obligations and attend activities and events beyond the academic school day.
- Integrates technology to support curricular aims and help students effectively achieve their goals.
- Provides student support and supervision both inside and outside the classroom.
- Other duties as assigned.
