ENTACT is actively seeking an experienced Superintendent - Wastewater Treatment in the environmental remediation and geotechnical construction industry. Candidates must be open to sustained project-based travel within the US, at least 80% of the time. Project locations will vary depending on the assignment. Candidates can reside anywhere within the US.
 
Position Summary:
The position of Superintendent – Wastewater Treatment will be responsible for the wastewater treatment system through the full lifecycle of the project. This individual will exhibit a high level of knowledge of wastewater treatment systems within the environmental remediation industry. Associate must be open to periods of sustained project-based travel. HAZWOPER training is highly preferred but not required. Must have a valid Driver’s license with no driving restrictions which interfere with job requirements.
 
Essential Job Function:
  • Plan, lead and direct work in a safe, compliant manner.
  • Review proposed wastewater treatment system approach and equipment specifications.
  • Must be able to provide input to the design team for treatment steps, equipment, system setup, operation and demobilization schedule.
  • Review and provide feedback on estimates for the wastewater treatment system mobilization, construction, commissioning, operation and demobilization.
  • Travel to project site and support the off-loading, setup, mechanical and electrical construction of the wastewater treatment system.
  • Begin commissioning the wastewater treatment system when construction nears completion.
  • Upon the completion of construction and commissioning, start-up wastewater treatment system and train ENTACT Associates to operate the system.
  • Operate more complex wastewater treatment systems requiring advanced operational knowledge such as chemical flocculants, coagulants, precipitation, pH adjustment, or other chemicals used to remove chemicals of concern.
  • Analyze process issues and provide solutions to existing wastewater treatment projects.
  • Supervise disassembly, decontamination, preparation of shipment and loading of all wastewater treatment equipment for project sites.
  • Repair in-house equipment as necessary to continue wastewater treatment operation.
  • Prepare equipment in good working order prior to demobilization.
 
Skills/Experience Required:
  • Ability to utilize a computer and associated software including Microsoft Word, Excel, Email and Adobe Acrobat
  • Must be knowledgeable in mechanical applications for piping, hoses, pumps and electrical generators.
  • Must be able to install and program pH controllers, chemical feed systems and other meter such as flow, turbidity, etc.
  • Understanding written sentences and paragraphs related to documentation, including plans, manufacturer manuals, drawings, specifications, budget, safety policies, and HR policies
  • Must have Illinois Class R or Class K or Nebraska Industrial Class 2 License.
  • Experience supervising wastewater operators preferred.
  • Knowledge of wastewater operation and permit criteria.
 
Physical Demands/Visual Requirements:
Physical, visual and situational activities that are commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job include, but are not limited to:
 
  • Work is performed while standing or walking outdoors or in an office environment.
  • Must be capable of working under physical stress conditions such as heat stress and cold stress during various weather conditions and potentially long workdays
  • Possibility of use of respiratory equipment (i.e. half-face, full-face, SCBA, etc.)
  • Heat extremes when wearing certain types of PPE.  Wear Level C and D PPE including cotton, Tyvek, chemical protective coveralls, eye and face protection, hand protection, etc.  Potential for Level A and B PPE exists
  • Climbing stairs and/or ladders to reach elevated workstations
  • Working on elevations such as scaffolding, bridges, buildings, etc.
  • Ability to lift objects weighing 1 to 25 lbs. on a regular basis and may be required to lift objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Donning of varying types of personal protective equipment (PPE) as project requirements and conditions warrant.  Minimum PPE includes steel toe safety boots, hard hat, safety glasses, ear plugs and reflective safety vest
  • Working in loud or noisy environments
  • Ability to give clear and precise verbal and written instruction to all crew members including when under pressure
  • Match or detect differences between colors, including shades of color and brightness
  • See objects or movement of objects to one’s side when the eyes are focused forward
  • Hear the direction from which a sound originated
  • Smell odors to protect themselves and others from hazardous/unknown atmospheres
  • Frequent face-to-face interaction with others. Listening to what other people are saying and asking questions as appropriate
  • Must be able to safely operate a motor vehicle
 
Environmental/Atmospheric Conditions:
Environmental and atmospheric conditions commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job include:
 
  • Outside construction site, onsite office space
  • The terrain is rugged and may be difficult to navigate. 
  • Hot environments.
  • Confined spaces
  • Noisy work environments controlled to levels at or below exposure limits
  • Contaminated atmosphere exposures (i.e. fumes, vapors, lead dust, H2S, etc.) controlled to levels at or below exposure limits
 
Personal Protective Equipment:
  • Different types of personal protective equipment (PPE) may be worn including, but not limited to hard hat, hearing protection such as ear plugs or muffs, eye protection such as safety glasses, goggles, face shield, etc., welders helmet, safety vest, various types of gloves including leather, Nitrile, latex, etc., steel toe boots, and various respiratory protection such as dust masks, half face and full face respirators, SCBAs, APRs, etc. may be required depending on site conditions.  Protective coveralls include cotton, Tyvek, fire retardant, chemical protective, etc.
