Position Summary

This position is not eligible for tenure/non-probational status.

Provides leadership for developing and managing high-quality CTE programs that align with workforce needs and the College's mission. This role oversees program planning, curriculum development, compliance, and resource management while fostering industry partnerships and driving student success.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supervises the day-to-day operation of the career technical programs and personnel.
  • In consultation with the Dean of Workforce, oversees and participates in the improvement of instruction processes for full and part-time CTE faculty.
  • Reviews and submits to the Dean of Workforce proposed departmental class schedule and teaching loads for all courses to ensure student centered schedules for day, night, and online students of all ages.
  • Recruits and recommends adjunct faculty for career technical programs.
  • Recommends faculty and staff assignments in the CTE areas.
  • Participates in the college-wide planning process and institutional effectiveness of the College.
  • Assists with accreditation and certification processes.
  • In cooperation with the Director of Institutional Research conducts annual program review activities.
  • Supervises the planning, budgeting, and expenditures of funds allocated for the CTE division.
  • Supervises and evaluates CTE faculty in the performance of their duties.
  • Recommends curriculum for new/additional courses/programs to be offered.
  • Coordinates curriculum development by faculty to respond to student, regional workforce and community needs, including establishment and assessment of learning outcomes at the course and programmatic level.
  • Works with instructional staff to integrate emerging technologies and industry trends into the curriculum.
  • Ensures that each CTE program has an active advisory committee that meets regularly to provide input concerning program design and implementation.
  • Provides guidance in working with CTE advisory committees and attends advisory committee meetings.
  • Builds and maintains strong partnerships with local businesses, industries, and workforce development agencies.
  • Works with other college departments to enhance instructional partnerships and apprenticeships with businesses and industries throughout the College’s service area.
  • Assists in the promotion and marketing of the college image and CTE instructional programs in the college service area and regionally.
  • Provides assistance with distance learning activities as they relate to CTE programs.
  • Assists in student recruitment including career fairs, college fairs, and community events.
  • Coordinates retention and advising efforts with students within CTE division.
  • Responds to CTE student concerns and inquiries.
  • Maintains inventory records of all equipment assigned to the respective department and periodically reconcile the records with the Business Office.
  • Acts as liaison between the instructional division and appropriate administrators to ensure that policies and procedures are followed.
  • Ensure that CTE programs meet local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Serves on college-wide committees as required.

Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in career technical education from an accredited institution, required.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in a career technical field, required.
  • Three years of leadership experience, required.
  • Experience working in higher education, preferred.

SALARY: Compensation is in accordance with the Alabama Community College System’s Salary Schedule C2 ($77,611 - $120,346).

Contract of Employment: Pursuant to the Alabama Community College System Board of Trustees’ Policy 204.01 and the Chancellor’s Procedures for Policy 204.01, effective July 1, 2024, executive and administrative management personnel employed on Salary Schedule B or C and who are employed in positions titled as a Deputy, Chief, Dean, Assistant or Associate Dean, Executive Director or Director, shall enter into an employment contract with the College’s President per terms and conditions established by the Alabama Community College System. Such positions are not eligible for non-probationary or tenure status. Applicants who choose not to sign a contract of employment are not eligible to be hired or placed into the subject positions.
