Position Summary
The WORC Project Instructor is responsible for delivering comprehensive training in commercial truck driving and/or heavy equipment operation as part of the “Engage Empower and Employ initiative in Alabama’s Delta Region” funded by the Workforce Opportunities in Rural Communities (WORC) Grant. The instructor will prepare students for industry-recognized certifications while fostering a positive and productive learning environment.
Salary: Commensurate with education and experience according to ACCS Board of Trustees Salary Schedule D1/IC. (This is a grant-funded position. Continued employment is dependent on continued funding.)
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
At a minimum, the essential functions of the WORC Project Instructor are to:
- Provide classroom and laboratory instruction in accordance with approved course outlines.
- Supervise and evaluate student performance, providing constructive feedback to enhance skill development.
- Promote and maintain a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment.
- Assess the effectiveness of the training program and recommend improvements as needed.
- Maintain accurate and timely records related to student progress and project outcomes.
- Ensure proper use, maintenance, and transportation of training equipment across sites.
- Support recruitment, marketing, and outreach efforts to promote the project and attract participants.
- Assist with program logistics, including setting up training sites and coordinating schedules.
- Attend workshops and meetings that contribute to planned professional development.
- Participate in staff, division, and committee meetings as assigned.
- Actively participate in division/college committees and campus activities.
- Demonstrate ethical behavior, loyalty, honestly, and integrity, both on and off the campus.
- Other duties as assigned by the President, Executive Director of WorkForce Development . and/or WORC Project Coordinator.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent; post-secondary education or certifications in a related field preferred.
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience in construction, transportation, or related industries.
- Expertise in operating and training on equipment such as commercial trucks, mini excavators, dozers, forklifts, and/or skid steer loaders.
- .Knowledge of best practices for safely transporting and securing heavy equipment.
- Experience providing training or instruction to individuals or groups.
- Demonstrated leadership and communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Valid driver’s license required; Class A CDL preferred or must be obtained within 90 days of employment.
- Ability to travel within the service area as needed.
- Commitment to fostering a supportive and effective training environment.
