Brief Description
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Chemical Technician role is responsible for performing required chemical process checks and maintaining systems necessary for equipment to control wash water, waste and soluble oil for operations for the manufacture of aluminum beverage cans.

ENVIRONMENTAL & PHYSICAL FACTORS: The physical demands and work environment described below represent the activities and surroundings of the position(s). Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Works primarily in a warehouse/manufacturing facility. Daily contact with other departmental personnel. Occasionally works in all weather conditions, extreme temperatures, around chemicals and chemical fumes/emissions, dusty & clean environments. Frequently works with electrical and mechanical hazards. When working with surplus and scrap materials, will frequently be required to work outside and/or in an unaired conditioned warehouse. Continuous use of vision, hearing and speech. Frequent sitting, standing, walking and occasional bending. Will lift, carry, pull / push, and reach for supplies and on occasion lifting (up to 50 lbs.) while performing various aspects of the job; Will need to climb stairs, climb ladders, lift and move objects, requires manual dexterity and repetitive use of keyboard/computer devices/power tools/machining equipment; Wear safety equipment, such as earplugs, goggles, and steel-toed shoes.
HOURS / SPECIAL CONDITIONS: 12 hour rotating shifts 4 days on and 4 days off; Rotating shifts requires working night shifts; Present to fulfill job duties & meet operational demands/support; Schedule may vary depending on plant operational needs thus flexibility is required which may include long days, evenings, weekends, holidays and overtime; Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of this position

Essential Job Functions
- Many responsibilities overlap for all production technicians, but specific to the Chemical Technician role are listed below:
- Maintain and understand operation of all equipment in the Chemical Area, including the Washers, Soluble Oil System, RO and DI Systems, and Waste Treatment System
- Complete quality sampling (both in lab and physical checks) and make changes to dosing accordingly
- Engage in routine maintenance such as changing nozzles in Washers or changing filters on the Soluble Oil System
- Understand and safely handle Highly Hazardous Chemicals
- Independence and integrity required in performing the job with and without supervision
- Quick to respond to other areas’ requests for assistance or information
- Troubleshooting when issues arise in our area or because of our area
- Keeping the the area clean, safe, and organized
- Ability to be forklift certified
- Communicate with supervisors on status of operations and/or issues
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- Required – High School Diploma or GED equivalent
- Prefer experience in production with extensive troubleshooting skills
- Prefer experience maintaining and/or operating water treatment systems
- Aptitude in spatial reasoning, attention to detail, and skilled craftsmanship
- Operate compressors, spray equipment, and other small power equipment
- Ability to utilize power tools and hand tools
- Use of precision measuring instruments
- A demonstrated experience where quick-thinking and problem solving plays a critical role
- Handle simple and complex heavy industrial equipment like forklifts, scissor lifts, basket trucks and bobcats
- Working knowledge of all automation standard practices
- Ability to read and interpret P&ID drawings, pneumatic, hydraulic and electrical schematics for use in system understanding and troubleshooting
- Strong organizational skills and proven ability to maintain accurate, detailed records that will be audited periodically
- Ability to work on multiple projects at once with tight deadlines
- Ability to work with employees from many different cultures and backgrounds
- General knowledge of basic hardware and software and uses of a variety of different computer operating systems such as Microsoft Office Work, Excel, Outlook, Google Workspace, and web-site software
