The Fire Systems Technician will be responsible for installing, programming, troubleshooting, configuring, commissioning, and servicing fire alarm systems and other related building system products at customer sites, including panel programming, resolving low voltage circuit troubles, and system testing.
What you'll do:
- Partner with a senior technician to install, maintain, and troubleshoot fire alarm systems.
- Confirm compliance with applicable life-safety and fire-safety requirements as mandated by standards, codes, manufacturer requirements, federal, state, and local ordinances, and customer expectations.
- Perform programming, testing, final inspections, as-built drawings, and customer training for installations.
- Complete and submit all required task-related, activity, productivity, and other documentation in a timely manner.
- Detect and troubleshoot system malfunctions efficiently to minimize downtime.
- Build strong relationships with customers through effective communication and exceptional service.
- Maintain vehicle in clean and orderly fashion. Keep vehicle stocked with parts, equipment, and supplies, necessary to perform the job
- Other duties as assigned.
Required skills, knowledge, and abilities:
- High school diploma or state-recognized GED; Vocational or trade school courses in electrical, electronics, or communication systems preferred.
- 1 year of experience in the installation and/or maintenance of low voltage systems.
- Experience reading and interpreting blueprints, submittals, and operational/product manuals is preferred.
- Proficiency with hand tools test equipment, multi-meter usage, digital analyzer, and commissioning devices.
- The ability to calculate basic math including fractions, decimals and percentages.
- Proven ability with basic computer functions, operating systems and software applications such as Windows, Word, Apple IOS, Android and Outlook.
- Strong troubleshooting skills and mechanical aptitude.
- Sense of urgency, self-initiative, dedication, and sense of ownership.
- Effective written and verbal interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders at all levels of an organization.
- Outstanding ability to follow through from start to finish of work.
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail, while also able to balance multiple priorities.
Physical Demands:
- Ability to work in a variety of circumstances, including but not limited to standing, walking, bending, kneeling, crouching, crawling, climbing ladders, scaffolds, and high-lift equipment; working in ducts, crawl spaces, roofs, basements, above ceilings, and in outside/inside/heat/cold/day/night conditions.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- May be required to satisfy requirements imposed by specific projects, customers, or company.
- Must be able to use hand tools, laptop, email, smartphone, and tablet.
- Must be able to carry and move equipment and tools weighing up to 50 pounds unassisted.
