About this Site:

Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area is a large urban park in and around Atlanta, Georgia. The park has 35 full-time staff and 3.4 million visitors a year. Birding, fishing, hiking, and paddling are major recreational activities in our park. The climate is typical of middle Georgia with hot, humid summers. The park is in a dense metro area, so grocery stores, medical services, and other facilities are abundant.

Park housing includes four bedrooms in a good condition 1960s residence. The house is a quarter-mile walk from headquarters and close to amenities. There is a shared kitchen and eating area, common living room, and washer/dryer. WiFi is provided.

The intern's work will be split between outdoors fieldwork and indoors planning, coordination, and professional development activities; the majority will be outdoors where they will encounter mildly uneven terrain, bugs, and the potential for hot summer weather as well as rain, and the necessity for water safety on the mostly placid to class I river. Safety equipment and materials, training, and support will be provided, along with reasonable accommodation. The ability to lift 25 Ibs, sit and paddle in a small craft and walk or use a manual, all-terrain wheelchair over distances up to 1 mile will be required to complete the outlined activities. The Planning, Resources, and Education division combines resource management, park planning, interpretation and education. Multiple interns on site across the division can support each other, as does our collaborative team of staff and volunteers.
