The Latino Heritage Internship Program (LHIP) seeks to engage Latino undergraduates and recent graduates ages 18 - 30, and up to 35 for veterans, for this unmatched leadership training program that is focused in the cultural and natural resource management. You must be (additional requirement):

  • Must be a U.S. citizen or legal resident.

  • A valid driver’s license is required for this position.

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate, graduate, or Ph.D. degree program at an accredited institution of higher education during the summer internship.

Position Description: 

The intern will collaborate with the Education Coordinator and Lead Park Ranger to develop programmatic content and support for Pullman National Historical Park. They will continue and expand research on the unionization of Mexican and Filipino porters (onboard railcar workers) employed by the Pullman Company.

Using this research, the intern will create an interpretive story map and other interpretive products to enhance public understanding of this significant yet lesser-known story. Their efforts will support the park’s goal of developing robust and dynamic programming while highlighting underrepresented narratives within the Pullman story.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Be open to working with diverse individuals from various backgrounds, seeking common understanding and shared interests.

  • Work comfortably in an urban environment.

  • Demonstrate a general interest in the National Park Service and Pullman National Historical Park.

 

Qualifications:

  •  
  • Completion of at least one year of college-level coursework.

  • Strong communication skills.

  • Ability to operate a vehicle and walk or stand for several hours each day.

  • Experience with education or youth programs is desired.

  • College coursework in education, history, public policy, environmental justice, or public speaking is helpful.

  • Spanish language skills are highly preferred.

  • Must be open to collaborating with people from diverse backgrounds, promoting mutual understanding and shared interests.

Public Land Corps Non-Competitive Hiring Authority (PLC)

The Public Land Corps Non-Competitive Hiring Authority is a special hiring authority available to qualifying interns. The intern must be between the ages of 18 and 30 years old, inclusive, or a veteran up to age 35 and complete 640 hours of work on an appropriate conservation project to be eligible for this hiring authority. Upon successful completion of the PLC project(s), the intern is eligible for two years to be hired non-competitively into a federal seasonal, term, or permanent position. The applicant must apply to a PLC-eligible position advertised on USAJobs.gov and selected off a non-competitive certificate of eligibility.
