EAS is currently looking for a Senior Archaeologist / Principal Investigator .

This is a full-time remote position (with travel required for projects as needed).

Essential Functions :

  • Project management experience managing large, multi-year contracts including managing deliverables, staffing levels, invoicing and client management.

Full cycle project management experience including developing scopes of work, pricing, project initiation, financial and project management to close out.

  • Knowledge of Sections 106 and 110 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 (as amended), Archeological Resources Protection Act, Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act, and other pertinent laws and regulations governing historic resources.
  • Able to complete all phases of archaeological investigation.
  • Expertise in field excavation techniques, archaeological inventory evaluation and data recovery efforts, analysis of prehistoric and historic artifacts, and preparation of compliance reports.
  • Able to consult and communicate with regulatory agency personnel such as various State Historic Preservation Offices (SHPOs), Native American Tribes, and other interested parties.
  • Prepare Work Plans, design research and field methodologies, direct field crews including scheduling work, performing, and managing data interpretation, and overseeing report production.
  • Write archaeological reports and / or prepare archaeological site forms and make decisions about project alternatives, NRHP evaluations, and effects on historic properties in collaboration with a team.
  • Create National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA) compliance reports and supporting documentation necessary to protect or mitigate significant archaeological, historic, and Native American sites.
  • Experience using GPS units, Total Stations, GIS (e.g., ESRI products), and Adobe software.
  • Serve as peer / technical reviewer for internal and external documents to ensure quality.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision, as well as part of a multi-disciplinary team to meet project deadlines.
  • Ability to effectively manage a team of archaeologists and act as their direct supervisor.
  • Education :

  • Bachelor’s degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or a closely related discipline.
  • Master’s degree is a plus.
  • Minimum Job Qualifications :

  • 8 years of supervisory experience preparing work plans, designing research and field methodologies, and directing field crews (e.g., Crew Chief, Field Director, Project Archaeologist).
  • Meets all Secretary of the Interior’s Professional Qualification Standards for Archaeology.
  • Registered Professional Archaeologist (RPA) or ability to become an RPA.
  • Experience in proposal development.
  • Excellent technical writing skills.
  • Desired Qualifications :

  • 10 years of demonstrated experience.
  • RPA.
  • Direct experience working with government agencies including; USACE and DOD military installations.
  • Experience with National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) reviews and providing documentation to aid in NEPA reports is desired but not required.
  • Supervisory experience.

    The US salary range for this position is between $70,000-$90,000 and will be based on factors such as experience, education, and location of the employee.

While on job sites, there may be manual labor including excavation with shovels and moving wheelbarrows filled with dirt. The employee might occasionally lift and / or move small or large objects up to 50 pounds. This role also routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines. The employee is required to have visual acuity to operate motor vehicle, prepare and analyze data, and work on computers.
