The duties that the incumbent of the vacancy will be expected to perform. Duties Description This position will manage access and fisheries resources across the Adirondacks. Our resources span small brook trout waters to nationally recognized black bass angling in Lake Champlain. Successful candidate will be expected to work effectively on assigned projects and also as a team member for larger Regional programs. This position will administer the Region 5 angler access program. The position will require visiting sites to maintain current knowledge on the condition and needs of sites to communicate those needs with Operations staff at 5 different working circles. Responsibilities will also include; managing multiple fisheries resources in two counties within the region, overseeing management of two of the most important waters within Region 5, Saratoga and Great Sacandaga Lakes. Design and conduct, or assist in conducting, investigations, field surveys or other actions to address resource needs within the 500 plus waters for Region 5 Fisheries. Investigate and address stocking policy changes as needed. Participate on teams for major Regional projects including brook trout and round whitefish restoration projects, as well as, sea lamprey control on Lake Champlain. Draft reports and briefs as required by Bureau of Fisheries policies and procedures. Respond to public inquires about fishing, aquatic resources and access to regional waters. Present DEC positions and issues to the public and communicate the public's comments and issues back to appropriate DEC staff. Coordinate stocking of Regional waters as needed. Review and comment on applications requiring DEC approval to prevent or minimize impacts on aquatic resources. Provide direct supervision, overall direction, and assignment of work to seasonal Fish and Wildlife Technicians as assigned. Provide Fisheries' input in development of unit management plans for various units in Region 5. Develop expertise in construction and maintenance of fisheries management structures. Assist in the routine administrative and management procedures of the region and bureau, including periodic reporting procedures such as time cards and expense accounts. Represent DEC to constituency groups, including at selected public meetings. Secure Pesticide Applicator License and participate in training classes to maintain certification. Complete evaluations as required. Where the potential for habitat impacts warrant, assist with site inspections prior to permit issuance as needed. Similarly, when habitat impacts warrant, assist with enforcement actions and identifying remedial actions in instance of violations.
