The duties that the incumbent of the vacancy will be expected to perform. Duties Description The Fish and Wildlife Technician 2 will be supervised by staff in the regional Bureau of Wildlife. They will be responsible for a variety of tasks specific to their assigned Bureau including the supervision of one or more Fish and Wildlife Technicians 1. They will also collect wildlife specimens for identification, abundance, size, and quality; coordinate and summarize data collected from various sample collections/surveys; supervise the construction and repair of habitat structures; respond to nuisance wildlife complaints; coordinate and supervise deer and waterfowl check stations; assist in the preparation of media brochures; schedule, develop, and display public presentations; conduct field investigations to determine compliance with conditions of environmental permits.The Fish and Wildlife Technician 2 will communicate orally and in writing with a large variety of groups, including division and agency personnel, the public, special interest groups and private firms or contractors. They will provide information on programs, policies and procedures and recommend preferred/required actions. They will also summarize data collected and assist in the preparation of reports and public information documents.

The minimum qualifications required for this vacancy. Minimum Qualifications This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS).For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title may be filled via a non-competitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title for which they apply. At a future date (within one year of permanent appointment), it is expected employees hired under NY HELPS will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to compete in an examination. Employees will then be afforded with all of the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State. While serving permanently in a NY HELPS title, employees may take part in any promotion examination for which they are qualified.NON-COMPETITIVE MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Three years of experience in fisheries, wildlife, or marine resources management; fish or wildlife propagation; a living marine resources program; or a fish, wildlife, or marine research program.Substitution: one year of college coursework including at least 12 semester credit hours in fisheries, marine resources, wildlife management, or a related field, may substitute for one year of the experience described.COMPETITIVE MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Reassignment - Currently in the title and an employee of DECorReinstatement Eligible - Previously held the title on a permanent competitive basis or held a title as indicated under the transfer eligible section on a permanent competitive basis.orTransfer Eligible - One year of permanent competitive service at Salary Grade 11 or higher and: Eligible for transfer under Section 70.4: Must meet the open competitive minimum qualifications below;Eligible for transfer under Section 70.1: Permanent Competitive service as a Fish Culturist 1.*55-b/55-c Candidates must meet the open competitive minimum qualifications below and include with their resume or application, a copy of the letter from Civil Service which indicates approval for the 55-b/55-c program.Open competitive minimum qualifications (provided for 55b/c candidates and 70.4 transfer eligibles): Three years of experience in fisheries, wildlife, or marine resources management; fish or wildlife propagation; a living marine resources program; or a fish, wildlife, or marine research program.Substitution: one year of college coursework including at least 12 semester credit hours in fisheries, marine resources, wildlife management, or a related field, may substitute for one year of the experience described.Important: If you qualify under an option requiring the possession of semester credit hours, you must submit a list of qualifying courses or photocopy of your transcript(s) with your application. If you qualify under an option requiring specialized work experience, you must include on your application a clear and detailed description of your qualifying technical experience. Vagueness or omissions will not be interpreted in your favor.
