The duties that the incumbent of the vacancy will be expected to perform. Duties Description The Professional Land Surveyor 1 will assist in the management of project priorities within Region 9; provide direct supervision and training of survey staff, manage work schedules, perform administrative and/or acquisition related surveys, research records relating to ownership and location of real property; give professional opinion on boundary lines and land titles; sign, seal and certify survey maps, prepare legal descriptions; maintain land records; negotiates contracts, review and approve surveys, maps and contract compliance with consultant land surveyors; ensure quality control and data integrity of survey related material; assist with real estate needs; work cooperatively with forestry, wildlife and fisheries land managers to assist with maintaining boundary lines and help develop a system for maintaining State land boundary lines; supervise minor engineering projects; assist the Office of General Counsel and the Attorney General in case preparation; may be required to testify as an expert witness. Will be required to carry equipment over difficult terrain while performing fieldwork.

To be eligible for appointment under NY HELPS, candidates must meet the minimum qualifications below: Promotion: Possession of a New York State Land Surveyor’s license and current registration and one year of service as an Assistant Land Surveyor.Open Competitive: Possession of a New York State Land Surveyor’s license and currentRegistration. Candidates may also be appointed via the following: Reassignment - Currently in the title and an employee of DEC.Reinstatement Eligible - Previously held the title on a permanent competitive basis or held a title as indicated under the transfer eligible section on a permanent competitive basis.Transfer Eligible - One year of permanent competitive service at Salary Grade 22 or higher and eligible for transfer in accordance with Civil Service law.
