We are seeking an experienced and motivated Environmental Scientist to lead and support projects focused on water quality, nutrient management, and compliance with the Clean Water Act. The ideal candidate will have experience with water quality monitoring, nutrient analysis, and project management, working in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to ensure the successful implementation of projects. This position requires a strong understanding of environmental regulations and water quality standards, coupled with excellent project management skills.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Lead and manage environmental projects focused on water quality, nutrient management, and Clean Water Act compliance.
- Conduct field assessments and water quality monitoring to evaluate nutrient levels, pollutants, and other relevant environmental parameters.
- Analyze water quality data, prepare technical reports, and develop recommendations for improving water quality and meeting regulatory standards.
- Ensure compliance with the Clean Water Act and other relevant environmental regulations (TMDLs) by staying up to date with local, state, and federal laws.
- Coordinate with clients, stakeholders, and regulatory agencies to ensure project milestones are met and compliance requirements are achieved.
- Develop and implement nutrient management strategies and water quality improvement plans.
- Prepare proposals, cost estimates, and project schedules for new projects.
- Manage budgets, timelines, and resources effectively to ensure successful project outcomes.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior staff and team members.
- Participate in public meetings and collaborate with community groups, as needed, to address environmental concerns.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Hydrology, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in environmental science or a related field with a focus on water quality and nutrient management.
- Strong knowledge of water quality standards, nutrient pollution issues, and Clean Water Act requirements.
- Proven project management experience, including budget management, scheduling, and resource allocation.
- Familiarity with environmental data collection methods, water quality monitoring equipment, and laboratory analysis.
- Experience working with regulatory agencies such as the EPA, state environmental agencies, or other local governing bodies.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including technical report writing and presentations.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Proficiency with environmental modeling software, GIS, and data analysis tools is a plus.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel as needed for site visits and project work.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
Preferred Skills & Experience:
- Experience working on water quality projects in both urban and rural settings.
- Knowledge of watershed management practices and environmental restoration techniques.
- Experience in public outreach and stakeholder engagement.
Travel
- Dependent on client needs travel may be occasional 25%,
- Able to travel to client sites and may require occasional overnight and/or extended travel.
- Maintain a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
