What are the responsibilities and job description for the CAD Technician position at Environmental Design Group?
Environmental Design Group is seeking a qualified CAD/Survey Technician who will work in the field to provide support to the crew chief and assist in the completion of the team’s daily tasks. Projects may include aerial mapping control, ALTA/NSPS land title surveys, as-built surveys, boundary surveys, computer mapping, consolidation/subdivision plats, construction layout, easement and legal document preparation, geographic information systems, development surveys, land acquisition, property line surveys, residential site plans, right-of-way plan development, topographic surveys, and utility inventory mapping.
As a Survey Technician at Environmental Design Group, you will:
- Operate and maintain survey instrumentation and data collection equipment; prepare and load assigned work vehicle for daily assignments
- Use basic math skills to calculate distances, road elevations, and other computations; take detailed notes on site to support the team; place ground stakes at specific locations designated by the Crew Chief to mark construction coordinates. Depending on soil and terrain conditions, this task requires significant physical strength and flexibility.
- Prepare detailed drawings and maps using computer-aided design (CAD) software to a high degree of accuracy.
- Research documents at the relevant county courthouse to verify the current property owner, adjacent owners, and boundaries established in old surveys and easements; read engineering, topographic, and boundary plats, and other related plans to gain an understanding of the site to be surveyed or to provide information to other crew members; upload or download data files as needed for office use
- Develop collaborative relationships with our clients and other industry professionals.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Work hours are typically 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Occasional evening work may be required as job duties demand.
Travel
Travel is primarily local during the business day.
Must have a valid driver’s license and possess a driving record that will enable the employee to be insurable under the Company’s standard vehicle insurance and general comprehensive liability insurance without additional costs to the Company.
Qualifications
- An associate’s degree in Surveying or a related field is required
- Three or more years of experience is preferred but not required.
- Must be proficient in MS Office, survey technology and equipment, and other industry-based software is required.

Pay: $25.00 - $30.00 per hour
