CONSTRUCTION MANAGER
REMEDIAL CONSTRUCTION
JOB SUMMARY
Responsible for field management related to the Remedial Construction Service Area. This position reports directly to the Service Area Manager.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Assist in selecting and procuring vendors, equipment, and subcontractors for upcoming projects
- Act as Safety Officer while on Site.
- Lead and document daily safety meetings.
- Evaluate skills, assign tasks, and motivate project team members.
- Verify public and private utility locates have been completed and are appropriately marked before performing work.
- Ensure execution of project objectives as defined by the scope of work, specifications and health and safety plan.
- Effectively communicate current project status and upcoming project needs to Project Manager or Service Area Manager.
- Complete project daily reports.
- Assist Project Manager or Service Area Manager in development of client invoices.
- Complete projects within schedule and budget restraints as defined by Project Manager or Service Area Manager.
- Provide communication with client field representative.
- Ensure tools, equipment and vehicles are routinely inspected, properly maintained and deficiencies corrected.
- Ensure shop is maintained in a clean and organized manner.
- Develop new business opportunities through relationships with existing clients.
- Provide cross selling opportunities with other service areas.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Extensive knowledge of remedial construction techniques to include but not limited to UST closure projects, dig & haul projects, treatment system installations, soil mixing, plant decommissioning and demolition.
- Wide range of knowledge of OSHA construction standards and able to interpret regulations and guidance.
- Able to develop innovative solutions to difficult construction problems.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Good professional writing skills.
- Understanding of general engineering principles.
- Able to read and understand Gant Chart style project schedules and project drawing notes.
- Identify, negotiate, and procure cost efficient resources to complete project objectives.
- Identify out of scope work and develop change order cost.
- Monitor performance of sub-contractors and compliance with project requirements.
- Participate in client pre-construction meetings.
- Assist with bid opportunities to include site visits, production estimates and obtaining supplier quotations.
- Effectively delegate to and manage Field Supervisors, Field Technicians and HEOs in the execution of EFS projects with limited supervision.
- Train and mentor Field Supervisors, Field Technicians, and HEOs.
- Setup jobs: develop load list, develop field instructions, and secure travel/lodging
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
Experience: 7 years construction experience, 5 years supervisory/management experience, 5 years environmental remediation experience
Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Calibrate and use various types of field equipment.
- Work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.
- Work in small, cramped areas.
- Travel across rough, uneven or rocky surfaces to access equipment.
- Climb ladders or steps where equipment is located, to reach objects on shelves, or to monitor machinery and equipment.
- Move heavy objects (50 pounds or more) short distances (20 feet or less).
- Bend or stoop repeatedly or continually over time to make adjustments to equipment.
- Work safely without presenting a direct threat to self or others.
JOB CONTEXT
100% field/site visit travel (environmental job hazards)
This classification requires travel to various client locations. Travel typically involves day trips within the state or neighboring states, resulting in longer workdays; and may include extended and/or further travel, resulting in multiple days and overnights. Long-distance drives and air travel may be required. Shift work and holiday work may be required on an as-needed basis.
